what i love about this book is all the things that are left unsaid: the cause of the chaos and destruction outside of the compound, the enormity of the stakes, the lives of the participants prior to entering the compound. it’s almost scarier to not know.

this is a book about a well-off family eating slow lunches and doing nothing at the beach for a week, interspersed with mild family drama. it’s lovely.
