The Chaser: ugh I hate it when a story is so good at making you feel tense that you're kinda scared to finish it. I am really bad at teenage social situations in books and always have been so this story was a tough read. Really great though

"I'd be thinking about checking my pants, to see if I had peed, wondering am I maybe even peeing right now? But I'd surreptitiously check and no, my pants would be dry, even though they felt wet. And then two minutes later, I'd be like, okay, maybe this time I really did pee my pants, and nope, no. I never have pissed my pants, for the record."

What if everybody had to choose their gender?

I've got one chapter left and I really can't be excited about this one. It feels more like a expositionary dialogue piece than an essay with a point, a theme, a thesis. Its not badly written so I dont want to give it two stars but I've not felt this non-passionate while reading a text about a topic I am passionate and knowledgeable about yet.

Okay i think I get it, the first part of this book is just explaining where lgbt people and dnd connect and then hopefully the second part will delve into how this creates community and why nerdy stuff attracts the queers.

Target audience, who your text is for. I kind of expected a book about queer culture within dnd to be written for queer people who play dnd. This book starts with a chapter explaining what dnd is and what queer means, not a bad thing sure but if your target audience is queer nerds, we already know what these words mean. If its for people unfamiliar, then it shouldn't be written in low-fantasy language.

The porn is getting in the way of the plot and the plot is getting in the way of the porn! Also they shouldn't be able to go graverobbing, the ground freezes in the snow duh

The mushroom earrings and bike shorts paint such a vivid picture of what Salem looks like i have to laugh (with joy. this is great, surprised this woman was with a man tbh)

Sometimes I read collections of essays and they don't really connect to each other, and they don't have to necessarily. Here I noticed that a lot of care has been taken to the order in witch each text appears for maximum impact, the reader can develop their understanding of the media critiques by hooks and each of her arguments builds upon our understanding from what was read before. I really like that

I remember why I ate up this book as a pre-teen but on god.. this romance is so boring... though the teenage angst is what I remember it being

I really love this essay, its very short and to the point. Its about how (in this example) feminist women must interrogate their sexual desires within the patriarchy and come to terms with the sexually attractive parts of masculinity are largely learned from the patriarchy. I thought I'm immune to wanting to be desired in a patriarchal masculine way but apparently not lol. Much to learn

I love how dumb every character . Jacob says "the Cullens are vampires," Bella immediately believes him and decides to confront Edward immediately. Every day I think about how funny it would be if they weren't vampires and honest to god were just fucking with Bella for fun (this makes the incest worse but also funnier)
