Bro just COOKED Allan Bloom in the prologue. This will be a fun response to read.

“…the crisis of liberal education is a reflection of a crisis at the peaks of learning, an incoherence and incompatibility among the first principles with which we interpret the world, an intellectual crisis of the greatest magnitude, which constitutes the crisis of our civilization… Liberal education flourished when it prepared the way for the discussion of a unified view of nature and man’s place in it.”

“The people of the Great Migration had farther to climb because they started off at the lowest rung wherever they went.”

“If there was one single precipitating event that set off the Great Migration, it was World War I… But the masses did not pour out of the South until they had something to go to. They got their chance when the North began courting them, hard and in secret, in the face of southern hostility, during the labor crisis of World War I. Word had spread like wildfire that the North was finally ‘opening up.’”

It’s getting a bit repetitive, and he even pulls a Mohler quote out of context (I checked the source), but I’d still say this is an important read thus far. Unfortunately, the book primarily describes an evangelical subculture that is mostly unwilling to hold reasonable, rational conversations about this topic (i.e.,Either Trump is our savior, or else you’re a radical leftist who wants to see America crumble).
