I’m enjoying seeing the differences between the book and the film.

Honest to God this Jess Kidd binge is my new addiction! This story has just been gripping from the first page. I’ve been too busy engrossed in it to update but where I’m at in the story - I’m just going to say I knew it. LOL I’m so distrusting of people that it was obvious to me. I’m just waiting for the end for see if my other assumptions are correct. Let you know later today.

Good read so far. The writing could’ve been a bit more… professional rather than conversational, but that’s just my preference. The written style of sentences that require cadences and intonations to make sense when listening threw me off a handful of times 😂 I understood it better the moment I started reading it as if I was actually taking to the reader, hand gestures, attitude and all.

What a cute coincidence that I would start reading this book on 1st June 2024, and the first page of the story is on 1st June 1911.

I am loving the drama!

I just had to turn back a page to ensure that I had accidentally skipped a page because WTF just happened. 0-100 real quick. What a tease.

Can I just ask why Mahoney is not batting eyelids at the fact that Mrs C knows his superpower? They’re just keep talking about it like it’s an everyday occurrence. I’m still tryna figure out how she knew. Is it her superpower too?

Chapter 4 is giving me goosebumps and at the witching hour, no less! I love that for me. Thank God Ben’s awake. And regardless, I can’t seem to put this book down lol eff my 930 start 😂😭

I love that Jess incorporates magical and mythical elements into her story so seamlessly. Instead of you feeling like you’re blatantly reading a fantasy, witches and wizards themed book, you feel more like you’re reading a book about everyday people who may have a lil extra to their skill set, no biggie.

Oh that prologue was beautifully written. Jess is definitely the kind of writer I’ve been waiting for! I didn’t know that I needed this poetic style for dark matters.

One things I forgot to state in my TiJ review is Jess Kidd’s actually writing style. I’m barely 7 pages into Himself and the writing is just spectacular to read - the way things are written is so full, creative, satisfying to read. Usually, I get so bored with heavy descriptions and scene setting but with Jess’ writing, you don’t even notice that’s what’s happening!

Despite the not-so-great feedback about this book, I’m finding this book interesting enough. I’m from the UK so maybe the descriptiveness of a time-gone-by in a different country is an intriguing aspect to me.

Every person could do with knowing the “5 Things Method”. It’s going to be a long while before women stop being the assumed designated housemaid but in the meantime, it wouldn’t kill a man to know how to be helpful to himself, his partner and his family. Take note, y’all! 📝

Finally. An update on this child. Gosh, while I do appreciate the lengthy descriptions in scene setting, my gosh, is it lengthy!

I watched the series on ITVx and once I saw it was based on a book, obviously I had to read it - just to know how much better the book must be! Here’s to hoping!

I saw “Toff…” and just picked up the book because I only know one Toff and I love her and yes, I was so happy to learn that this book was by that Toff - immediate buy.

This book has been fascinating from the very beginning!

I’m not sure if it’s the STYLE of writing but it’s reminding me of The Inheritance Games - I can’t quite put my finger on why - maybe the tone?
