the corinthians side story was cute !

theres so much happening wow! i liked hagar but maybe because she reminds me of violet; the gold idk about yet; the "race war" years is an interesting place for a morrison novel to go and i havent read anything on it yet xcept for that great bbaldwin essay a while back

the structure feels strange, like a „corrected“ timeline kind of

love how morrison can make me empathetic even for ruth here; also i see the common thread of the violent and deranged sides of love between this and jazz

vonnegut said something about violence that reminds me of morrison. her characters and her world exude it

the incest was surprising and shocking and shouldnt have surprised me i guess. (p.110) „he was already Dead“ … okay

i like the 3-generations coven. the writing is good but the characters seem kind of inconsitent to me and some images are spelt out a little too much imo

hmm idk if i love the straightforward storytelling that much, also the characters are .. alright so far. kind of a come-down after TWWG :|

(p.82) love the story of this town and the humor of its citizens. love the mule story.

(p.57) this is great prose wow! also so interesting the story of eatonville by one of its own. the pear tree paragraph was insane and some other sections („cracked plate“ !!! ) were so good i had to pause for a moment. love the town growing disillusioned woth jody as they realize class interests dont have to lie along ethnic lines. also this is so extremly toni morrison at times

bissi enttäuscht dass er backpeddled in eine „lohik bis zum tod“ statt des selbstmordes überhaupt. die aufzählung von absurdem hilft mir leider kaum. seine schöne/praktische bildsprache scheint sogar in einem essay durch

started rereading; auf p.16 sagt er etwas schlaues: die entscheidung zum selbstmord findet im individuum statt. auch wenn wir gesellschaftlich leiten helfen können, gibt es reiche die sich töten und arme die überleben, selbstmord auszurotten nur durch ökonomie wird wohl nicht funktionieren

really good prose so far, lautsprache bei gesprochenem somewhat hard to read, cute intro (smith)

cute; although i cant relate to the songwriting process its a fun setup for exposition

thought this whole section was really good and i liked the weavibg into the way more fantastical main plot

oooh love the time jump

really a story about our down-on-his-luck protagonist finding hope and courage in real-person-fiction / these historical figures. reminds me in its silly premise of that awesome Patricia Taxxon essay „Art Furries God“

how strange of a premise, tubman goes hamilton but its herself at the helm. very ambitious and so far already really funny

solid couple of essays. I enjoy the increased sense of continuity between them. I feel like I really get to know John through the overlapping stories of his life framed as reviews.
