this is going to take a while. i just want to re read the beginning every time i get a few pages into this. expertly written and drawing from a well of knowledge

this is getting better, due ti her acknowledging that refusal can only be done if you have the "margins" to do so. the half-chapter on strikes was interesting to read. i do think this middleground between activism and self help isnt panning out in favor of odell tho

cute chapter but not nearly as good as the first one

this is something that i would call a hidden gem on substack or other places like it but is a little too rough around the edges for a published book 📚

honestly i really like the (first?) main character, her usage of AI seems to be escape and enabler of her unstable relationship with choice and present

pale fires central conflict/idea seems to be kinbote wanting his life (delusions?) or his likelihood being captured in art and after not getting that to somehow tack it onto the completely disconnected artwork--maybe a commentary on inserting urself into other peoples art?

i miss the emotional connection of the poem, even Pynchon's Oedipa Maas felt more human, i could share her losing grasp of reality. i dont feel anything about kinbote.

still so much fun to read, but feels quite directionless after that purpose-full poem so early on. its probably on purpose but what purpose? purpose

nabokovs prose is still incredible but i still dont like reading kinbote and i guess this is all this is going to be

really love reading this, nabokov is obviously extremely talented as a writer. i wonder how much he inserts himself in the characters, esp. the old poet. that poem was fucking awesome !! and seemed so personal in its autobiographical details

very fun to read but im cautious how this narrator (which is written with acidic parody) develops and especially him being gay..

ich mochte Ernst Stadlers "Der Spruch" und "Fahrt über die Kölner Rheinbrücke bei Nacht" sehr gerne und "Der Gott der Stadt" von Georg Heym war auch ganz cool.

death as the origin of existentialism was obvious but camus does take it to its logical extreme; absurdism seems to be about the present above everything else and (continuous) awareness of the temporary quality of everything. im starting to understand him better methinks but i wonder if that really leaves "the absurd human" as an immoral being. i think thats just camus bildungsbürgertum speaking...

okay ich bin back on board. existenzialismus explained 101 ! and now...

first short story was pretty cool and the second one is fun and fine so far. reminds me of proust but its missing his incredible prose
