Just finished chapter 1 and very excited. I didn't even notice until my second read-through of book 1 how suddenly the book ends, mostly because of the insane epilogue. We really don't get any resolutions with any of the main characters. I can't wait to see what going on with Amissa for example, but also what is Ulcuiscor going to think of everything. nov 11 can't come soon enough!

I'm enjoying the combat, but the start was extremely rough. It's hard to watch a main character make every single wrong decision at every opportunity. Currently feel so so about it, but it's getting better as I continue so I'll probably finish it liking it quite a bit.

It's no secret I've basically hated everything I've read by King, I'd basically sworn him off. But I'm super invested in this one. By far my favorite thing I've read of his.

Ahhhh…this is the good stuff. The book intro was pretty rough, but I’m settled in now and loving it.

Spoiler Free Thoughts from Preview chapters:

The good - I love the direction the story is going. There's a few chapters that are some of the best Stormlight has ever been with some legendary writing from Sanderson.

The bad - there are some really really terrible chapters too with awful humor, dialogue and prose and I don't know how they got past the editor.

I'm left cautiously optimistic about book 5

“The Pattern moves and flows; only the dead are still. He must act, or he will die. From a crossbow bolt in his back, or poison in his food, or the Forsaken banding together to rip his soul from his body. He must act or die.”

With one paragraph I’m now like 10,000x more interested in Rand’s story

The first third of this book was reeeeeeally rough. The pacing in this series is all over the place. Things are finally picking up though :)

Oh boy. I was loving the audiobook, so I picked up the first 5 ebooks from Amazon. Huge mistake. The writing and grammar are horrendous. What a difference a good audiobook narrator can make!

I’m not nearly as hooked as I hoped I would be, but I’ve heard things get really interesting in the second half. I like a few of the threads being introduced, but it kind of feels like we introduce a bunch of characters only to move on and leave those characters behind to start over again, and that’s happened multiple times. Hope we can get grounded with some lasting characters soon.

Took a long time to get going, but I never thought I'd be so hooked on a bunch of drama about who owns a boat.

This is so good. Holy cow. I'm just so happy reading about Fitz again. So weird since I was middling about the last two. Coming to a strange realization that maybe I just don't like dragons in my fantasy book. I don't think I've read a single one that I really loved

“My landlord oppresses me something wicked. Banging on the door and going on and on about all the rent I allegedly owe, which is a total lie. And the people next door oppress me all night long. I tell them, I work all day, a man’s got to have some time to learn to play the tuba. That’s oppression, that is. If I’m not under the heel of the oppressor, I don’t know who is.”

I can tell I'm going to like this 🤣

Feels very Wheel of Time at the moment. Nice and cozy, though not really breaking new ground. I probably shouldn't have read it immediately after Eye of the World.

I'm a third of the way through the book and I have no idea why Kvothe feels all these little adventures at the university are a necessary part of his story.

So far it's feeling a bit scattered, like I can't really latch on to the plot. I'm more invested than I was at this point in book 1, but no where near where I was at the end of it. I'm having a hard time remembering all these characters...I need a spoiler free wiki just for this book

I genuinely was not expecting to fall in love with this. But wow, this is fantastic! I’m only a quarter of the way through and where the first book felt meandering and honestly a bit silly and predictable, I’m captivated by what’s going on now. We’ve got tension, mystery, seamless worldbuilding, and yes, a bit of silliness too. But I find it night and day compared to my first read of book 1.

I’m only a third of the way through and it’s already better than both the previous books by far, and that’s saying something. On the one hand I’m enjoying this immensely and it’s hard as heck to put down. On the other, I would have preferred some of this delicious intrigue be spread out among books one and two.

I’m genuinely shocked. I’m halfway through this book and it might be my favorite thing I’ve read all year. I’ve read some great stuff too with lots of well developed characters, but this is freaking Dragonball meets Naruto meets Final Fantasy and it’s giving me the insane Shonen plot structure that I’ve been craving in a story since my first time through Stormlight. I absolutely love it.
