Pretty interesting world so far, and it is very fucked up that the protagonist has to go through this repeated morality screening but uh there’s no world where taking a baby from a hospital room makes any kind of sense! Again, fucked up situation and all but wtf were you thinking girl?!

That’s it? Really? You go swimming in the monster water and make a deal with a deity and can do nothing while a man grabs you by the gills shoves you in a tank right before a hurricane hits?! Your mom breaks her arms multiple times in this damn book at least trying, and she doesn’t have any monster powers!

The characters aren’t really reacting the way I would expect in response to experiencing and doing horrific things; it’s ruining my immersion.
I’ve been thinking of the setting of this book as some Silent Hill type of world, although even they had phones…what time period is this supposed to be taking place in??

Really? The female government agent being out and about with minimal makeup during a catastrophic alien invasion is the thing that gives our protagonist an inkling of how poorly the humans are handling said invasion? Jfc

Again with the flip-flopping, about two hundred pages ago the protagonist was all: my fellow plant aliens, my plant brothers and sisters! Now she’s going on about being an only child…it’s like different people wrote the chapters of this book without reading or remembering what was previously written.

Oh, now you’re too dangerous to be around your friends because the invasion is coming? After going on and on about how they needed to be near you so you can protect them because the invasion is coming? Pick a lane

About halfway, no alien invasion yet, but paragraphs upon paragraphs dedicated to explaining and re-explaining how the protagonist knows the alien invasion is coming and it’s going to suck for the natives most likely, and she mostly only cares about the humans she personally knows anyway, and isn’t that so hypocritical of her?! Shut uuuuup

Would prefer that the “villains” were not cartoonishly evil, but everybody else is a stereotype, so that was too much to ask from the get-go.

Marshall is a largely uninteresting character to me so far, aside from when she makes fun of the horse baby’s dad for possibly fucking a horse. I hope the story gets interesting enough to make up for Marshall soon…

I didn’t realize exactly how “horse girl” this was going to be- which I suppose is on me. I saw horror genre and I saw horses, and I frankly don’t like horses so I assumed this would involve a lot more horror and less fawning for my equine enemies, lol

Hey, did you know Viv is pretty? Don’t ever forget that Viv is pretty, but if you do fail to recall that Viv is pretty, this fucking book will remind you nearly every chapter that Viv is fucking pretty ok? It (the fact that Viv is pretty btw) is clearly the most important part of this story, based on repetition.

Listening to the audiobook, and I’m struggling to not drop this book- there are interesting bits here and there, and the rest is boring or annoying. Why do I need an entire Carly chapter pretty much dedicated to her ogling what’s-his-face? Why does everyone, even other adult women, treat Vivian like she’s 14 rather than 20? The world may never know.

“It was an honor to meet you”? Why the fuck was it an honor? That’s a weird thing for that character to say at this point…

I’m trying to read through this to join a book club, but the fucking info dumping is killing me- I figured maybe it would just go on until the world was satisfactorily established, but now I think it’s going to just be a whole book of this crap…

It’s a good thing the protagonist Kit tells us she wasn’t a good student at the start of the book, because it makes it easier to understand why she acts so stupid at times.

Interesting, but the info dump is starting to wear on me…
