Researching "Billy," my forthcoming novel about trans jazzman Billy Tipton, I grew to care deeply about transgender rights. 60% of trans/GNC people don't even go out because they can't safely use the bathroom! Many get UTIs from holding it in. Awful.

Find out more in my new blog/Substack post, which has gotten a HUGE positive response. https://authorsherryjones.com/blog or https://sherryjonesauthor.substack.com.

My research into the Great Goddess is proceeding wonderfully! Just a few chapters into "Goddesses in World Culture," a 900+-page tome, I've found a myth I'll use for my novel "The Great She." I feel so excited about this Goddess-inspired book, which I began writing after Goddess visited me in a dream with a mandate: to "set the record straight" by countering patriarchal narratives with the truth about Her.

I’m reading this entire tome to glean info for my WIP, “The Great She,” a novel of the Great Goddess through time. The depth and breadth of the essays is impressive. I now feel like an expert on the first two goddesses depicted, Kali and Lakshmi.

I'm so excited to announce that Viola Davis's production company, JuVee Productions, has signed on with actor/producer Paula Patton to co-produce a movie or series based on my novel JOSEPHINE BAKER'S LAST DANCE. Viola Davis read my book and LOVED IT! They are making pitches to studios even as we speak. Fingers crossed that Josephine's amazing story comes to the big or small screen.

I'm actually writing chapter 11 of this book, which occurs in 1943. I had included a funny scene with a coin-operated vibrating bed -- but then did a bit of research and discovered that the Magic Fingers vibrating bed wasn't invented until 1958! Merde!

If she doesn’t get this gig, Dot will have to teach piano lessons, maybe for the rest of her life or, even worse, until she gets married. Dooley comes running in with a fedora that matches the suit and she grins. This will work. It has to.

Blinking back tears and rage, she went to the Martinique Café with Non Earl to cry on her shoulder: another gig lost because she’s a girl. She used to think talent and skill were what you needed to play music, but it turns out that a penis is also mandatory.

"We like our dames slinky," he said.

She’d wear anything he wanted her to, but he shook his head and said you can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear and so she picked up her instrument and left, her friend Non Earl behind her cursing, the band leader grasping for her hand and saying he was sorry, that he didn’t make the rules.

“There’s nothing small about your sound,” he said when she’d finished. “When can you start?” Right now, she started to say but a hard-eyed man with a mean mustache came barreling up from the bar and said they had a rule against girl musicians, that this was a nightclub and not a bordello.

In the prologue of my work-in-progress, Billy's adopted son, Bill Jr., reminisces about his 'dad':

"You did not ever go into any room that Dad was in without knocking. He was the most private person anybody ever knew. Modest, Mom said, to a tee: In twenty years she’d never seen him naked, not even partially. None of us had."

Reading part one, I started to wonder, “What if I hadn’t married? What might I have become?” In part two, I’ll start finding out, I suppose. Also, what happens when you don’t sleep but stay up all night to read a book when you’re over 40. OK, over 50.
