I do find King's writing easy to read, but so far this one isn't grabbing me as some of his books have

Taking a brief pause from this one whilst I try to finish my bookclub book for my first ever bookclub tomorrow evening! Then I'll be back to reading about killer doggos

I just want to be reading this and not doing anything else, I'm really enjoying this!

Folk traditions are absolutely brilliant! I'm utterly loving this book so far

A fantastic book so far, though I doubt I'll be able to finish it in time for my book club on Thursday I'll give it a fair go

It's October, I want to read at least one Stephen King! Though I'm focusing more on my history reading for my studies, I also wanted to have some non-fiction on the go

My copy has like 70+ pages but can't remember how to get a librarian to add this copy, I remember it took ages before and was really faffy...

I really don't care about any of the characters and I think that's the problem. Too little value is given to them by the author and it just means I don't care enough to really care much if they live or die

Over the last couple of days I've had the chance to put some of what I've learnt from this book to the test, and it has been incredibly useful!

I will definitely keep this one for references after I've read it, but I do think that quite a lot is going in!

The story of William Dampier is such a fantastic one!

I feel this is less of a page turner than I expected it to be

I do feel this history is strangely balanced. 200 pages have covered the time from 55BC until 1914, the next 70 will do 1914-2020 (when this book was published,)

I feel this book is simultaneously moving very slowly and too quickly at the same time... I'm enjoying it but I'm not being pulled into the world as much as I had expected to be

Another fascinating walk, but the next walk begins with a currently impossible suggestion... To walk across Pero's Bridge...

I feel that the author has a lot more to say about recent history than any of the previous periods. We've reached the 1850s and the final 170ish years covers as many pages as the first 1,500+ years.

Okay that was such a fascinating, sometimes grizzly and often hilarious walk! Also, the first I'd done with someone else, it was nice reading out the stops aloud! A while since I'd done that 😁

I already knew a lot of what I'm reading in here, however it is making a lot of things clearer and it will definitely be useful when it comes to guiding in churches!

I'm learning a lot, including the fact that I still have a lot to learn!

According to the Horrible Histories song the first 8 Kings from 1066 are:
"William, William, Henry, Stephen, Henry, Richard, John, Oi!" Disappointing lack of King Oi in this book...

Basically just reading this when I can put it in my pocket, really good so far but I feel guilty when I'm not reading history books right now!

Well, the first story in this novel has hooked me and made me wonder what's to come!

I don't think I realised just quite how long French was the language of the rulers of England. Kings William I, William II, Henry I, Stephen, Henry II, Richard I (the Lionheart), John, Henry III, Edward I, Edward II and Edward III probably spoke NO English at all. Only French and maybe some Latin. 300 years + and not one spoke the language of their people!

I do enjoy the way this is written so I can just dip in and out of it

I'll give it to him, Rankin does write a book that can legitimately be called a "page turner"
