I actually love a book with many different characters with a writing style that jumps forwards and backwards in time like this one, but it's perhaps not the best when travelling because I'm frequently distracted (more than usual) so I find myself losing the plot at times

I feel, just from the introduction, that this is going to be a great book to compliment My Name is Red with its themes of Westernisation of Turkish culture and the balance that this country, bridging two continents is frequently forced to make

So much of this novel seems to be a philosophical treatise on art, I find those passages much slower going! This is not a book you can rush

This is such a poetically written book that it's difficult to read quickly, especially when travelling and having constant distractions!

So far this is an incredibly philosophical work of literary fiction, long may this continue

I'm not one to get upset by pronouns in the modern sense of the phrase, but the version of this I have on my e-reader has so many typos it's maddening! The amount of times it says "he" when it should be "she" is genuinely frustrating! It changes sometimes half way through a sentence

My first read for Turkey, always great to read books by authors from the countries I'm traveling in!

The only survivor of the apocalypse? An inner city girl with no self preservation instinct or transferable skills. Gold.

I hate when a book spoilers another book for you when there's no need! I wasn't born having read all the classics and I haven't read them all yet, don't include spoilers in your book...

My old man trait is that I hate that British English is becoming more and more Americanised. A British author, writing a book set in London with a British character saying "sweatpants" I hate it. They are joggers or trackies they are not "sweatpants"...

Had a day out in Bath today, nice to explore the city! This "Little Book..." series is a good way to get a basic overview of an area so I bought this one today, read some on the train back and already learnt some new things: both Coleridge and Tolkien spent their honeymoons (not together obviously) in Clevedon, fancy that!

Just read the second short story with this edition, very cool, I should read some more of King's short stories! Now just 50 pages of deleted scenes, I gave them a skim and they look cool so I'll read them over the weekend, going to start another novel first though!

Well I finished the actual story, but the edition I have of this comes with a couple short stories and some "deleted scenes" tacked on at the end. I read the first short story and it was good. So I think I'll continue!

I've been reading this a lot to procrastinate today, also to distract from the news! Bloodthirsty vampires are less terrifying than what's going on in the world today

Finally some mistakes by King: perpetuating the myth that your hair and fingernails continue to grow after death (they don't) and also saying that medicine doesn't know how aspirin works: it is known and I'm pretty sure it was known in the '70s too!

If there's a compliment I can pay Mr. King it is that he is great at making a long book feel short!

I borrowed this from some friends about a month ago so I better read it! I've also got a time limit on reading it since I'm going to Turkey on the 14th so I better get reading! (King tends to be a fast read though)

I'm reading this fairly slowly because I'm trying to take in what I'm reading, I think once I've finished I'll have to keep this for reference though!

For the past four years I've been working as a tour guide in Scotland. But I'm not Scottish, I'm from Somerset, so my next aim is to get certified as a "Blue Badge" guide for the South West. As such I've decided to start reading some more history about where I'm from! Starting with my home country of Somerset!

My second Rooney book and, though I'm enjoying it, I find her lack of speech marks for dialogue infuriating

Well, since I'm still in Ireland I better start another book set here, and Sally Rooney is a good go-to Irish author

I love reading about books set in or written by authors from a country I'm visiting, and I'm going to be in Ireland for the next two days so a short book seems perfect, it's also set at this time of year so that's extra perfect!

I'm loving this book, incredibly approachably written and a fascinating subject! Foolishly I read a negative review on Goodreads and it's been living rent free in my head because of its unfairness. It says that the author just "name drops" famous paleontologists he knows, but it's not that, he's crediting his sources, it also said "unless they're a woman, then forget it" yet loads of them have been women... Grrr!
