I love a book which I look forward to picking up and continuing whenever I'm not reading it!

If there's a compliment I can pay Mr. King it is that he is great at making a long book feel short!

I borrowed this from some friends about a month ago so I better read it! I've also got a time limit on reading it since I'm going to Turkey on the 14th so I better get reading! (King tends to be a fast read though)

I'm reading this fairly slowly because I'm trying to take in what I'm reading, I think once I've finished I'll have to keep this for reference though!

For the past four years I've been working as a tour guide in Scotland. But I'm not Scottish, I'm from Somerset, so my next aim is to get certified as a "Blue Badge" guide for the South West. As such I've decided to start reading some more history about where I'm from! Starting with my home country of Somerset!

I'm still irritated by her lack of punctuation marks though...

My second Rooney book and, though I'm enjoying it, I find her lack of speech marks for dialogue infuriating

Well, since I'm still in Ireland I better start another book set here, and Sally Rooney is a good go-to Irish author

I love reading about books set in or written by authors from a country I'm visiting, and I'm going to be in Ireland for the next two days so a short book seems perfect, it's also set at this time of year so that's extra perfect!

I'm loving this book, incredibly approachably written and a fascinating subject! Foolishly I read a negative review on Goodreads and it's been living rent free in my head because of its unfairness. It says that the author just "name drops" famous paleontologists he knows, but it's not that, he's crediting his sources, it also said "unless they're a woman, then forget it" yet loads of them have been women... Grrr!

Lovely mention of Dugie Ross, the Dinosaur Man of Skye, though I never got to meet the guy he was an absolute hero on the island and in the field of paleontology, I'm glad he got the recognition he deserved!

I just finished a fantastic non-fiction book and it has made me want to read more, from exploring the deep ocean to exploring the deep history of dinosaurs!

You can tell Casey is from the USA as she just referred to Devon as someone's "home town"

This is really well written, I keep having to stop to Google what the weird creatures and geological features she's writing about look like!

I had a sudden craving for some non-fiction and this one won out from my far too excessive collection of unread books on my e-reader! It may have had something to do with having read "Into the Drowning Deep" recently... I'm wondering if Casey will expound on the nature of abyssal killer mermaids...

I thought I would give this one a go before I forgot what had happened in the previous book!

I'd much rather be reading this book, but instead I have to do my taxes...

I'd been meaning to read some Rankin for a while but had yet to find this one, the first, in a used book shop, but my friend had it and gifted it to me for helping her move house!

And now I continue my everso slow re-reading of the Discworld series which I had initially intended to do all in one go in 2020... Best laid schemes o' mice and men eh? I actually started re-reading this at a festival this summer waiting in a shower queue but thought now was a good time to continue!

There are pages and pages of this book where I can admire the beautiful gothic writing style, and others where the absolutely boring vampires this book reduce me almost to frustrated tears!

Okay, I'm enjoying this a bit more now, still hate everyone but I'm more interested in their fates now...

I'm going to try to finish, but I can't get over how romanticised these slave owners are...

The fact that all the characters so far are slave plantation owners makes me feel nothing but hatred to them. I don't care if they are philosophical, musing on the nature of life, strong willed women succeeding where they shouldn't. They are scumbag slave owners and I don't care about them because of that!

I know October is over but I'm continuing with the theme and I'm rolling into November with vampires!

The hunt begins...

Ah, the classic horror trope of supposedly intelligent people behaving like absolute morons... Always there, always frustrating!

Very good at bringing out more characters throughout for you to care about before they (presumably) get eaten by creatures of the deep!

Introducing characters in a way that means you care about what happens to them is such a great way to build up a horror story! If this hasn't been optioned for a film yet then it's only a matter of time

I'm already loving this, the "putting the team together" aspect is very Jurassic Park and Grant's writing (I just noticed that "Grant" is another JP coincidence) really reminds me of Crichton's, the near future (at time of writing) sci-fi setting, with very apt science, as well as the pacing is very similar to his work, this is already a brilliant read!

Killer mermaids? Sounds bloody brilliant to me, I'm in!
