so interesting to learn about how the people in the medieval ages conceptualized the world/space/etc.

also, i see where fourth wing and the cruel prince got inspo for character names/places…

a lot of philosophy stuff here to muddle through but it was very thought provoking!!!!! love you Clive.

very interesting to see how ancient history influenced later history which has influenced our modern history—through ways of thinking. obviously, that’s a basic concept, but i’m still astonished to trace the development of concepts we think are “unique” to our era.

always happy to read cs lewis. one chapter in, and i’m very intrigued by the way he’s traced the inspiration for the literature and beliefs of the medieval times and middle ages.

as detailed as always. his use of imagery is always so appealing as a reader.

finally getting to the island of numenor which really hasn’t come up in his other works other than kind the silmarillion so i am excited!!!

FINALLY FREE OF THE SHACKLES OF TURIN

“túrin turambar: master of doom by doom mastered” goes so hard EVERY TIME i read that line in any Tolkien piece that recounts his story.

always makes me giggle that as soon as niniel finds out she’s been banging her long lost brother she immediately jumps of a cliff. romeo and juliete core.

brandir is INSUFFERABLE as a character. forgot he killed dorlas. what a yucky hypocrite loser.

niniel and turambar make me sick. i want to finish turin’s storyline and get to numenor so badly pls free me from this torment.

no matter how bad a day i’m having, i find peace in this novel because turin is ALWAYS having a worse day.

still in the same section. read about túrin with the outlaws and some of MIM THE DWARF!

the line “if i stayed beside you, love would lead me, not wisdom” is repeated in all the iterations of the children of húrin but it never hurts any less. beleg. 😖😖

cant believe i’m reading a third iteration of túrin’s story. ready for some new stuff but i still enjoy it.

still working through narn i hîn húrin. i read the words of húrin and morgoth/the departure of túrin.

“let the unseen days be. today is more than enough.” a good reminder from tolkien.

i gained sympathy for túrin after reading the children of húrin but i’m kind of tired of reading about him so much LOL. glad to have found time to read this again though!!!

1st story down: of tuor and his coming to gondolin

i will NEVER tire of reading about gondolin. how truly magical, descriptive, and immersive tolkien’s writing is. i adore tuor as always.

i resonate with, “and so entranced was he that for long he could look at nothing else; for he saw before him at last the vision of his desire out of dreams of longing.” beautiful.

also, not the turin crossover! jumpscare!

literally cried over rhys’s whole monologue. him dreaming of her and it becoming a solace. him saying that getting to see her at that festival was a “gift for what he had endured.” so beautiful.

“there you are. i’ve been looking for you” his first words to me—not a lie at all. “thank you for finding her for me.” i sobbed like a BABY. sad i’ll never be able to read this for the 1st time again.

i’m living for this slow burn. the water wraiths coming back to save us because of feyre’s act of kindness is so aelin coded. the addition that rhys sought for the book knowing it could free amren even at the cost of her leaving them. heartbreakingly beautiful.

can’t put the book down!!! i love the rhys and feyre banter but most of all, the mutual respect.

her breakdown scene while training was sad but inevitable. glad she realized just how much tamlin SUCKS and got to process that some.

i want to speed read this because it’s so good but also not because i want to savor it because it’s so good. hard life for me!

bone carver chapter was cool. i kinda dug his character. anyway, glad he laid out a lot of the background info so now i feel more aware of where the plot is going.

wondering if there’s significance to feyre seeing him as a little boy that looks like (is?) rhys.

book is eating. tamlin sucks so much. but… RHYS! VELARIS! FOUND FAMILY TROPE? i am now INSIDE of this story. cannot wait to keep reading.
