I love the chapter title ā€˜this shit needs to stop’. It’s so relatable.

A lot of this section that I listened to centred around the idea of SHAME. Why children need it, why it’s integral to emotional intelligence and learning those soft curriculum subject areas.

Language = culture
Culture = language

ā€œThis shit needs to stopā€ - what happened to the trust between teachers and parents? Why is bullying so prevalent these days?

Act like you’re a god in the classroom, because whether it’s a good or bad day is mostly up to you. You’re in charge. Act like it.

I find it interesting that he is more focused on boundaries than relationships, but in doing so hes still building those relationships with students.

The last few chapters have spoken about consequences of actions and classroom rules.
I really love how this author continues to discuss problems in the classroom in such a logical way, not blaming the students or the teachers but instead discussing every single factor that could contribute to different behaviours. I also love the way he uses metaphors to explain his thinking.

I just learned a lot about mass hysteria and the idea of people following a leader or waiting for others social cues.
