A hunt for hidden treasure and forbidden love. The FMC is a nautical archaeologist who finds herself in a small village investigating mysterious shipwrecks. She's on a secret quest to locate priceless gemstones, and unfortunately for her, the treasure might be cursed. Everything that could go wrong does. This was a really good book. Highly recommend it.

My first mistake was probably watching the movie first. The portrayal of Aza and her mental health disorder (OCD) was one of the most accurate I’ve ever seen. I was hoping the movie had left some things out, so I turned to the book for more depth and elaboration. While the book was good, it was still a bit of a letdown after watching the movie. But still recommend the read.

I'm ready for something to start happening now.

"My name is Alice, but I go by Mistress of Bloodshed, Lady of Carnage, that evil bitch, and please stop peeling my skin from my face," and she flashes her fangs again.

I don't usually read books like this, let alone books this long in this particular genre. I'm already starting to see why.

What's most disappointing is that I was genuinely excited to read this, only to find it painfully boring and completely lacking any emotional weight. The constant obsession with indie and old-school music is treated as if it's some unique personality trait, when it really isn't. Girl, bye. Really wishing I DNF'd this.

What a beautiful book. So glad I revisited this as an adult.

No, I'm not crying, you are.

How Augustus is so desperate to do something for himself after everything is just... I can't.

"You are a side effect," Van Houten continued, "of an evolutionary process that cares little for individual lives. You are a failed experiment in mutation."

I truly forgot how much of a dick Van Houten actually is.

"I'm in love with you, and I'm not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I'm in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable....[and I'm in love with you.]"

My heart truly cannot take this anymore.

"'Are you crying Hazel Grace?'
"Kind of?"
"Why?" he asked.

[....I just don't want my particular life, and also the sky is depressing me....]"

Honestly, revisiting this book as an adult is so different from when I read it as a teenager. I was nervous to do it, but 10/10 would recommend it.

I'm a sucker for a good celebrity memoir and this is no exception! Her writing and telling is phenomenal.

Moved this up on my TBR. A coworker recommended this book to me and told me to watch Girls on HBO Max, and I became obsessed. So she has to be right about this book too. High expectations.

Just because the first in the series is an absolute dumpster fire, it will never deter me from reading the second book. We’ll keep you updated.

The final stretch… thank God. Not sure why I’m continuing, but we’re still marching on. Katherine is really annoying.

You know...I'm not going to sit here and say that this book is poorly written, because it’s not. It’s just not for me. Maybe it’s because I’m not really sure what rowing is?

I don't usually like flashbacks, but when it's done right, it's done right! This one....did it right.
