I was not too surprised by most of the reveals in the latter chapters, but it was still heart-wrenching and sad. I wish a few more questions would’ve been answered, but I guess I just have to read the next book soon.

I really, really like Eidhin and Callidus. And I can absolutely see why they trust Vis more and more, why they’re friends. He might be lying, but he never condemns them for lying or not telling him something, never judges, never turns away. He’s a loyal friend, despite his lies and secrets.

So far, certainly one of the best books I’ve read in quite a while. I love all the lies and schemes and political intrigues, it’s a lot of fun to read dialogue with so much subtext. And the author gives just enough clues that every now and then I can piece something together just slightly, just a few pages, before the main character does.
I still have a lot of questions, but I hope they’ll be answered bit by bit.

The first half of the book was stronger than the second half, cause that's when the cracks and underdeveloped parts in the story/plot start to become more obvious. It was still very enjoyable and entertaining, but I think the ending was not right for the theme of the story. And a bit predictable.

I‘m currently a little unsure if I get enough decisiveness from Hecate as the main character. I do like that she ist consistent in being a rather soft person, but I don’t want her to need too much saving. It was nice that after being saved herself she in turn helped someone else, in her own way and with her specific abilities, but I like the moments in which she chooses something.

So far I‘m truly enjoying the book. The dynamics between the two main characters are great and it manages to pair a cozy autumn vibe with chilling and creepy events unfolding. One moment you’re in a nice autumn scenery, the next cold icy fingers grab you in your dreams. I‘m so curious to read more.

The beginning is a bit slow and I found it a bit difficult to connect with the MC, she felt a bit empty in the beginning. Even if it was somewhat deliberate, it made me put finishing the book off for quite some time. It was the other characters that intrigued me and kept me reading, as well as the critique of South Korean society, labour rights and working or job market issues.
