Finally, 400 pages in and my KC Royals are mentioned as an expansion team. What a grand old tradition is baseball, what better metaphor for the contradictions of America. Now, 30 years past the publication of Ken Burns’ Baseball, the seasons roll on, and even the Red Sox have finally beaten (4 times!) their curse. Optimism isn’t uniquely American, but I think we’ve won more pennants in it than anyone else.

Great story about the good and bad of America’s pastime as a metaphor for America itself. I can just hear John Chancellor’s voice as I read it.

Good solid history of some of the most famous US SPECOPS

Excellent. Not sure how I’ve managed to avoid actually reading the 95 theses all my life, but very interesting to see them all in order illustrating Luther’s thought process, particularly on the subject of indulgences.
