I ordered a different edition of this book, the one with a boy leant over a desk. It was such a clumsy translation that it was utterly unenjoyable, hardly intelligible. Wondering if it was me or the translation, I bought the .50 cent version on Kindle. It seemed much more like the translation I read in 1979. However, I find reading on Kindle does not suit me, thus I have ordered this. It’s Picador. Should be good.

Another college days re-read. However, at that time we read a much older translation, Constance Garnett, perhaps? It was a book that made a lasting impression on me, thus I am glad to be reading it again and in a more modern translation. One of the translators is the nephew of Nobel Prize author Boris Pasternak, an author whose poems and novel I love.
