The excerpt from Babi Yar nearly made me cry. Just wow. The townsfolk’s antisemitism and support of the expulsion of Jews from Kiev, and then them hearing the shots and realizing what’s actually happening… 😭

So many incredibly written stories and journal entries in here. From pilots badly burned and injured, to witnesses to genocide, like Anatoly.

RIP Herman Melville; you would’ve loved learning about whale sounds!

I’m enjoying this book so much. 😆 Melville writes some hilarious prose, though there was a chapter or two I didn’t enjoy. The first whale was just killed and that was not so fun. 😭 Poor thing.
