The character sees from the perspective that everyone is equal and is confused as to why there is so much racial prejudice.

I believe this author is qualified to write this novel, as it's about a personal story; they were educated in catholic schools. She also has a B.A. in English and education, an M.A. in religious education, and has taught.

The main character has gone crazy. No, it was too repetitive, and the plot was hard to follow since they kept going back to the fact that he was crazy.

I chose this book because my dad is in the Air Force, and I plan on joining the Air Force myself. Today, we never know what will happen, so learning the story of someone who went through the unexpected will be interesting.

A time I have felt my community become united was during the memorial for a passed student. The whole town was invited, not just the school, to come to the football field and mourn together. I have lived in many states and towns and have never experienced something this close.

The future is not ours to see. You cannot predict the future or alter it. This suggests that the book adheres to the belief of fate. I think she chose the bicycle to go around NY and play the song to remind people that everything is how it should be. While the strings portray how long you will live, you cannot make that any different, no matter what you plan to do in life.

If someone I knew had a short string and I witnessed the fight in the book, I would feel a little angry that the 3 boys were talking down to those with short strings. I would have called the cops to be safe and then tried to talk to the boys, but I would not want to escalate the situation to be physical.

My priorities would include spending time with my family and pets, traveling/camping at cool places, and doing art projects. Though in reality, I feel like I wouldn't end up doing much more than I already do.

Yes, I believe the short stringers are similar to other minority groups because they are commonly discriminated against. They should stand up for their rights, especially because they will die before others, so they should be able to have a job and live life with less struggle.

Hank jumped in front of a bullet. This act was very selfless, but in his situation, where his string is already very short, I would most likely do the same. I would want to die with a reason if my death were going to happen soon. By knowing when you die, you can have a small choice of how you might want to. While I feel Hank did not think this way, I would like to protect others more because of my short string.

He seems discriminatory and used his short string to his advantage. I think people with short strings shouldn't be in the office as they could use the strings to their advantage. "Rollins has ignited something", This quote shows that Anthony has started a new trend of discrimination against short-stringers to further his political career.

Hank witnessed a mom and daughter in the hospital, the child was sick and the mom was scared if the kid would die. So she looks at her daughters string and finds she would live but doesn't tell the kid. This relates to how I would use my own child's string for good. If it was a life or death situation and I was worried I would open the box out of care not violation. I believe telling them why I opened it is important

Hank decided to wait a while before opening his box. He was torn between opening and not opening the box. Being a doctor, he has seen most outcomes. His string was short when he opened it, and he then regretted it, quit his job to spend his last few months traveling. He didn't want to tell others/burden them. He wanted to forget about the bix. "He was angry at his string." Compared to others, he felt little emotion.

I believe miracles do exist to a point. Examples of a miracle in my life could be when I was kicked in the thigh and nothing broke, or when my grandpa had a heart attack and had no lasting damage.

Hank believes everyday you don't look at the strings you bring yourself more time in unaltered life, but other people have been reacting poorly to the strings with outbreaks, suicide and shootings. He decides to quit his job at the hospital to limit his exposure of the crazy people. The shooting at the hospital might encourage more outward behavior from civilians. Hank knows the shooter so he may feel less of society

People began testing their strings by doing dangerous activities that should kill them. I wouldn't test my string in this way, instead I would do some extreme sports or activities I would previously have too much fear to do.

Amie reminisces about the time before boxes came and doesn't want to open her box. she believes its an act of some magic and wants to see the world in "unsullied eyes". Believes the boxes are frightening, confusing and wondrous.

From the information learned in the recent chapter I can conclude that Ben's beliefs rely on the truth and doesn't believe in fairies and magic and that these boxes can be explained by something logical. Nina you can tell her beliefs rely on the situation. She likes to have the comfort of family and only accepts the strings when they are proven. After opening the boxes she becomes emotional and goes into denial.

If I received such a box I would not want to open it as I would live my life full of anxiety waiting for the string to end. Not knowing brings the encouragement of each day and the will to let what happens happen. Though I'm sure I would feel compelled to open the box as its mysterious appearance would be interesting.

"There are melodies that speak as eloquently as words, that flow logically and inevitably from a single, pure emotion. The invocation of this kind, as if its composer had sought to distill the purest essence of mourning, to say, Here is what it is to lose someone."

The first paragraph of the prologue i s what I first read and what got me to choose this book. "I remember being born. In fact, I remember a time before that. There was no light, but there was music: joints cracking, blood rushing, the hearts staccato lullaby, a rich symphony of indigestion. Sound enfolded me, and I was safe.
