This book is a genuine nightmare. The first half was boring but now its getting good. I hate that it was paced like this tho, the first half slogged i nearly quit. But my goodness this is horrifying, just the intense brutality and psychological horror what theyre describing. Like cannibalism?? The shadows are neutral but bad. And Danny is staying in The Stanley like the real Danny Gonzalez. Eyyy reference. Im tirrred

This book is one long sigh. Melancholic and peaceful, slightly boring but pleasant. I enjoy the writing and the atmosphere, so far the goal is to find the star, but really they are just on holiday.

Annika is a little dumb, shes just along for the ride, typical protagonist, I hope shes useful soon. 6 main characters? Its kind of a lot but i like that 3 girls, but the gender neutral names throw me off ngl. Confusing

Whyyy are we still setting the scene? This feels like chapter 1 bullshit but we are 1/4 done. Things have happened sure but i dont care about 2 sets of parents for 1 guy, and his ex wife and new boyfriend ontop of a murder mystery its too much shit to keep track of. Just front loading this book with info dumping is terrible, I like the supernatural stuff like shadows and bad feelings. Thats cool. But stick to murder

The writing style is extremely juvenile for the serious nature of the plot. Shes just a dope. Such an airhead repeating herself, spewing unnecessary information, telling us what she thinks every other paragraph with the conversation moving 1 inch in between. Its painstaking.

Why cant I find a good book? I suppose you get what you pay for if its only $0.99.

This is a different guy. Calder is so much more, sexual? I guess. Before he had a lot going on with his sister's and his mermaidness but now all he has is lily which makes him 100% love interest and thats it unfortunately. Thats why I liked his perspective so much, his crazy mermaid lifestyle of homelessness and lake vagrancy was funny. Lily is the same, just as boring. Poor guy, i liked him before better 💔

I am enjoying this book. You can tell it was very edited down becuase things happen very quickly, nothing lingers too long and we get a good sense of the town and the characters pretty quickly. Its cool how they migrate every season but Calder is the black sheep and wants to stays down in the Bahamas. I like that, hes a warm climate guy thats rare up north.
