You know what is an easy way to tell wether or not someone could be your mother? Ask them if they gave birth! It’s not something people tend to forget about.

I wish this whole book would just be Nakata having hilarious conversations with strangers. That would be so much better

I know, I said I wanted to give this book a chance but Kafka’s myopic egocentrism is truly testing me. How can you wake up covered in blood not your own and only think about yourself and not for a second about the other person that might got hurt quite badly? Well Kafka can, he is the warm little center of the universe apparently.

So glad that Oshima is there to explain the book to us in long didactic lectures so we are sure to know that is has themes and metaphors.
I do try to keep an open mind about this book but right now it’s really testing my patience.

Also, all the women so far don’t behave like people but like weird sexual space aliens. Why are books that are considered ‘great literature’ always like this?

Omg, he even ‘has the willpower to make his stomach smaller’. He is the ideal 15 year old as imagined by some 40-something academic man who is deep in his midlife crisis and wishes he had ever done something as interesting as running away from home.

Calling it now. Kafka is a Garry Stue. He is possible the most well read 15-year old in the world, who goes to the gym everyday and listens to jazz. He also ‘absorbed’ everything at school simply because he choose to without having to waste time studying. The only believable 15-year old characteristics about him are that he is constantly hungry, constantly horny and obsessed with his genitalia.

Why does this chapter even exist?

I can’t do this. I feel physically ill reading this.
