time 2 revisit my childhood

so much navel-gazing. so many things that could have been cut out. hell, this book would have been so much better if it had been written in 3rd person limited. i so r need to know every one of river’s thoughts.

the characters in these books are so painfully millennia, which is a me issue. i recognize that. i also recognize that as much as i enjoy the trappings of kink, the people give me adult theater kid vibes. i am predictably more drawn to the love interest and find the protagonist kind of exhausting because i’m privy to ever one of his thoughts and insecurities.

I’m glad I held out for the first sex scene with Ellison because he’s great, but the fact that it took about four or five chapters to get there and the stuff in between was not interesting enough that I considered a DNF (like it wasn’t even build up with the other romantic lead, there was barely any of that) doesn’t bode well.

ugh i’m not sure this is interesting enough to justify the meandering pacing… i’ve listened to nearly four hours and barely anything has happened.

not my favorite writer but i needed a palette cleanser and seeing that my life is a RTO nightmare i’ll take whatever i can get.

basically sold on the notion that instead of becoming a bitter incel after a string of rotten luck dating women, he found himself a big, strong man to spoil him instead. the best outcome, really.

this is somehow no longer doing it for me. not even teddy can salvage this. i’m too distracted by the lame writing and the even lame characters. some of the smut sparks, though. disappointing that my tolerance for subpar writing is waning.

the most objectionable thing about this book is the fact that merrick hates ceviche. then again, maybe peruvian ceviche is ass. i will need to confirm.

given how much i loved what cyril did For Love in amberlough and it was pretty reprehensible, i probably won’t be clutching at pearls too much over the purported moral grayness of these characters. some people really do the fucking most when it comes to their so-called moral boundaries with regards to fictional characters.

I remember disliking Grace so much for being a pedantic, unimaginative, petty little NLOG and the sentiment remains, but I like her place in the story a lot more. I think I’m ready to finally read Pepperharrow.
