After working at a library, I never thought I'd read anything with James Patterson's name on it. But I do love Viola Davis and have heard great things so we'll see how this goes.

I really want to like this book but it's written like the author had a character limit. No thought, idea or feeling is explored deeply. I can't figure out whether this is supposed to be YA or not but it's definitely written like teen or YA (other than the few cuss words). Almost done and i know it's a trilogy so we'll see how this one ends.

Girl, wtf. Over a fox?! No offense to Onyx. He was a little cutie but.... you gonna do all this over a fox? They're have been many many moments in this book where I'm like "I'm definitely not the targeted demographic for this book" but this shit solidified it.

Honestly, this is a LOT more tolerable in writing than listening to the audio. The FMC narrator honestly made writing sound so childish and trivial. There's other little things that I readjust in my head as I read but all in all I'm ready to be done with this and see what happens in the next one.

Alright, I'm spinning the block for a THIRD time. Because I often think about the story but honestly can't get through it and i think I'm starting to figure it out. She tends to repeat herself to make a point. I can't find an example but but she'll make a statement, then reiterate it in it next sentence, i guess to make sure you know how serious it is but I'm an adult, Callie,and my comprehension skills are on point.

Holy crap, I've been doing hair since I started this book so I just assumed I was almost done... it's good so far. I have a feeling Nathan was a POS but I guess how much of of a piece remains to be seen.

This book has been pretty rough to get through. Knowing that these things really happened, understanding that the casual cruelty towards black bodies was the norm. It's also a struggle knowing Pheby is "doing the right thing" but she's putting so many lives in jeopardy with her actions. Anyway, I have a sinking feeling so just notating the moments before this book shatters me. Wish me luck

I am usually an audiobook only girl but when I found it this was dropping I went ahead and popped an addy, renewed my kindle unlimited subscription and got ready to put in work. I already couldn't get into her patreon, there was no way I was gonna wait until this came out on audiobook.

I have waited 8 months to finally read this book. Started earlier this week and BOOM got terrible news. Now I'm wondering if I should read it because I hear it's super emotional and I don't know if i can handle heavy right now! Or maybe i need a good cry? I'm not sure yet.

Ohhhhh, this one is good, y'all! It took me a FEW tries to get into this book, like restarting and trying to get into it but I'm in it now. Some spicy scenes that I guess are well written but I can't get past that stupid word "cock", I'm surprised to see a black author use it. Hate it, i try to change it in my head like an adult but it throws me off my game. Call it a dick girl, please.
