Marcy is reading The Empire's Old Clothes: What the Lone Ranger, Babar, and Other Innocent Heroes Do to Our Minds
I enjoyed the idea of this book more than the book itself. Dorfman has interesting things to say about the role Western culture plays in shaping minds--young minds through children's books like Babar and older minds through Reader's Digest. But I think he gets too repetitive much of the time and at others doesn't illustrate as clearly as he could the way these books are used as soft power.

This is one of the richest, most powerful, and moving novels I've read in my life.

A riveting read! Freinkel does a wonderful job giving readers a comprehensive historical, cultural, scientific scope of this ubiquitous substance we call plastic. It is thoroughly enjoyable and it's a nuanced rendering of the role plastic plays in our lives.
