Easy to read. This is time travel and magical realism that I can read.

Chapter 9: a time to shut up. So good. Balance truth with compassion. Be specific and loving. Be quiet. Forgive the debt, the wrong, because we have been forgiven!

What a mess

Almost half way done and this doe NOT feel like a thriller. A mystery, family drama.

Also, I wish the author had made belle strong and smart without making her cruel and over-the-top with angst and swearing. Especially given how her father is described at the beginning of the book (as warm, kind, patient, loving).

Also, this book is forever long for a ya thriller.

What I love about this book: the concept, the dad, the eerie vibes

What I do not love: so much swearing. Hate it. More teen angst than I like. For a YA book, it feels like a terrible example for teen readers.

I really like both the mystery we are uncovering and the present-day dementia, care-taking storylines. I like Cassie, but I wish Cassie’s “I don’t need any help” was a little more nuanced. I don’t like Nora and I’m finding their storylines so similar, sometimes I really have to think about who is who.

I am really enjoying the mystery combined with family drama. The part I am currently in is hard to read (sad). Overall it’s really well-done. I think this extra mystery layer is what I missed in when reading, the bright years.

What started as a fun thriller with something Erie lying beneath is turning into something almost evil and hard to read. Maybe I just need a break or maybe the evilness of the husband is not what I’m meant to be reading. If you’ve read this, please let me know your thoughts

Loving the start of this book… we know something is not right and we are just waiting for the reveal. I like that undertone while the set up is still happening.

The writing is beautiful (if not occasionally melodramatic). The character work is great. I love the each chapter summarizes a year in the life of these people/this family. There is more grief than I’d prefer.
