Haymitch awoke in a lab with tubes coming in and out of him keeping him alive. Then he's back at the tribute apartment where he sinks into depression. He was given old games to watch and put together Lucy gray and snow in the 10th games. Then Effie shows up, makes him clean up, then prepare for the victory show. The recap twisted so much of the games and made Haymitch look bad. Then snow says "enjoy your homecoming."

Silka chopped Wellie's head off as Haymitch was in the lookout to go kill her. Snow also sent him a pitcher of milk as a sign of knowing what he did. Then Haymitch and silka battled with their axes and with the throw of silka's ax into the forcefield, it came back and landed in her head killing her. Now Haymitch won but tried to blow up the forcefield one last time as they yelled for him to stop.

I finished the book and I cried. Rip old Dan and little Ann, the best hounds a boy could ever ask for. Billy won first place in the competition and with the money, his family was able to move to the city. Where Dan and Ann were buried side by side, a red fern grew and as legend says, those are planted by an angel 🥹

The night started to storm and the 4 men were on the lookout for Billy's dogs. Luckily they found them first finding Ann who guided them to Dan. Grandpa sadly took a fall and became unconscious but now they've lit a fire, caught 2 more raccoons, and they're taking care of themselves.

Billy ended up in the final 3!! His dogs had everyone riled up when they chased a raccoon back to camp and they saw them running. The night that the final 3 were competing, the coon they were chasing ending up going in the water and almost drowning the dogs but they got him in the end. Now we're continuing on.

They're officially in the competition and he has been having a great time seeing all the other dogs and being treated as an equal. Little Ann won first place for being the best looking dog and Billy almost cried. To win, you had to tree and skin the most coons on your night. Billy's night was the 4th and since the first day, no one has beaten 2 blue tick hounds that caught 3 coons.

Billy's grandpa said he entered Dan and Ann into a coin hunting contest and the winner won a gold cup. So it was him, his dad, and grandpa that were to go and try to win. Billy also left flowers on Rubin's grave and he felt better. The mom is pregnant again as well and Billy felt bad that he just noticed but is happy for her.

Just as they were about to give up, they found the ghost coon again and got it in another tree. Billy didn't want to kill it however so Rubin and Rainie didn't give him the $2. The brothers dog then ended up coming and started to attack old Dan but him and Ann fought back and almost killed him. Then the worst happened with Rubin, tripping and falling onto the ax with his stomach. He bled out and died.

They were back after the ghost coon and after all night of chasing it, it made it to the one tree where they say the coon disappears.

Haymitch figured out the forcefield and made a plan. The maysilee screamed and he ran to see her getting attacked by mutt geese and there was no saving her. That was the capitols attack back at her. Haymitch then found wellie and they stuck together and were sent chocolate that they gave some to silka too. They're now the only 3 left.

Just kidding I guess the 2 careers didn't die but they were tracked and bombed so it's still them, haymitch, maysilee, and wellie.

Maysilee killed panache and then her and Haymitch teamed up. The volcano killed a lot of people then there were 10 left. They got attacked by ladybugs then there was a mutt that killed 3 more newcomers and 2 other tributes died we don't know how. As they were walking, they found the last 2 careers but ran into game makers that they killed but then the 2 careers were bombed leaving Haymitch, maysilee, and Wellie.

We're now on part 3 and haymitch was going crazy trying to find a way out of the arena. A few tributes died from the volcanic explosion but don't know how many. As Haymitch was following a rabbit, when he went through a bush, he was met with a girl from district 4 and he ended up killing her and her district partner. Then panache was there and he fought him a bit and then someone else darted him.

Haymitch and Ampert were able to temporarily disable the arena and Haymitch was ecstatic. Sadly Ampert died in a horrific way getting eaten alive by muttation squirrels. As Haymitch is singing his win, the sky goes back to the arena sky and he sees the mountain erupt in lethal gold and knows his party is over.

Haymitch wanted the game makers to know it's their fault Lou Lou died just like Louella and they ended up targeting him with butterfly mutts and that's how he was able to begin to plan. Then he looked and found Ampert and took him back and gave him food and let him sleep.

Haymitch was able to chew the charcoal to rid the acid out. Then at night the death count happened and 20 tributes died, 4 being careers and 16 newcomers. One of them happened to be Wyatt most likely protecting Lou Lou, who then found Haymitch. They were on there way and doing good but Lou Lou ate something poisonous and she started coughing blood up and Haymitch found her wire and pulled it to end her suffering.

We're officially in the arena!! Effie was the last person to see Haymitch and he had her promise to take his token back to Lenore if he doesn't survive. Haymitch was able to run and grab a spear, knife, and backpack to get to safety. 20 tributes have died. He drank water from a stream that he realized was poison after a rabbit next to him drank it and then plopped down and died.

Haymitch got to talk with Lenore and she got arrested for singing but only kept for a day. He promised they'll be together one way or another and they love each other. Plutarch gave him a heads up about the arena and also told him about flooding the place so he doesn't know plutarchs side. Before the day of the games, they came up with the nickname near beer careers to get the capitol people to mock them too.

It's time for interviews and Effie was able to dress them all nicely in black whereas the others were in many shades of green not standing out. The careers made a mess of themselves with Caesar proving they're really only brawny and not too smart. Haymitch proved himself to be the rascal he was told to be and made jokes out of getting a 1 at the presentation. Then we also learn drusilla and mango are married?!?

They're preparing for their interviews and Drusilla basically says they're all worthless especially Haymitch who scored a one and pissed of the game makers. Then their stylist also got high off licking toads so he didn't show up with outfits and the students were distraught. But then the one students older sister showed up, who is none other than the icon herself, Effie!!

They ended up having district 9 and 11 join the newcomers with Maysilee mending a token a girl from 9 got broken. Then during the presentation for the game makers, haymitch pissed off the head gamemaker, Faustina, and ended up getting a 1 as his score.

Snow used a girl to replace Louella and drugged her up and programmed her to look real. They feel bad for her and haymitch knows he has to play it off for the cameras. In the middle of the night, Beetee found haymitch and asked if he wanted to destroy the games. They plan on flooding the building with all the computers controlling the games.

Haymitch ended up in Snow's mansion with Plutarch and Plutarch showed him all of his family pictures and told him his lore. Then snow showed up spitting up blood and asking for milk. Haymitch found the milk, chugged it, then said there was none left and Plutarch went to find more. Alone with haymitch, Snow told him that he will make sure his death is the slowest and worst and that it's up to haymitch to choose how.

In the training room, they were able to make an alliance between 12, 10, 8, 7, and 3. Everything was going good but then haymitch was pulled into a van by peacekeepers and he knew it was for what he did with Louella making Snow see what his actions did.

They were all having breakfast in the morning talking strategy and teams and wiress was the one to give them advice of avoiding getting killed first then finding water and a place to sleep. Then they were off to training where they decided to practice knife throwing. Haymitch was asked a question to which his response was basically trying to make the capitol take responsibility of how messed up the hunger games are.

They were dressed in the ugly miner outfits for the chariot ride and on the ride, the horses went crazy and they were flung like ragdolls and due to the impact, Louella had died. Then they were back at their quarters and it was time to meet their mentors. One was Wiress, a winner from district 3. The other was mags, from district 4. Haymitch didn't think wiress should mentor but he was able to cry with mags hug.

They got on the train to the capitol and tried giving haymitch a birthday cake which he declined. Then maysilee judged Drusilla's outfit and drusilla basically beat her ass and Plutarch had her stop. Then they went to sleep and Louella and haymitch were talking about being allies and not wanting Wyatt as one.

Haymitch got chosen by drusilla after everything went to chaos and he tried to help Lenore but got them both in trouble. Drusilla is a big bitch and said she'll kill everyone unless they refilm it all perfect. Young Plutarch was the one to save haymitch and Lenore and got the new shots. Then they were on their way to the capitol having to eat and he formed an alliance with Louella.

Well the story starts out strong with it being Haymitch's birthday on the reaping day which happens to be 7/4. He helped his mom in the morning, worked with Hattie, then saw his girlfriend Lenore who was taken in by her uncle and partner. She gave him the fire starter which is the ring on the cover. On the reaping day, the 2 girls were called along with 2 boys but the second boy ran and got shot and killed.

Billy retold a story on how he wondered what old Dan would do if little Ann fell behind and he found out on a cold snowy night. They were hunting for raccoons and all of a sudden, he stopped hearing both Ann and Dan and only heard Dan howling for help. Ann was stuck under the ice and after a long time of fear and trying, Billy was able to get her out and they both almost froze to death. Billy was then sick for days.
