So intriguing. Does my brain crave science or something because I’m eating up all the descriptions and measurements and conversions

“Her eyes slid down to the red stones. And when they again lifted to his face, the unholy fire in her stare was gone. Replaced by something so dead and vacant it was like gazing into the unseeing eyes of a fallen soldier on a battlefield. He'd seen crows pick at eyes that dead.”

“She let her breathing saw in and out of her.”

The break between books was absolutely necessary because I am happy to report that I am enjoying this one. Maybe I was just sick and tired of Feyre honestly.

“Somehow, Nesta had become the ghost.
Worse than a ghost. A wraith, whose rage and hunger were bottomless, eternal.”

It has begun.

“Cassian‘s head spun, and the relentless itching resumed, like fingers trailing along his spine, his legs, his scalp.”

“There was night, and there was the darkness of extinguishing a candle, and then there was this. Not only the true absence of light, but... a womb. The womb from which all life had come and would return, neither good nor evil, only dark, dark, dark.”

Bruh, they gonna do it or not?

Some good lines! There are lots of inconsistencies that I’m a little upset about. Her aunt is only bad at English on the first page, and Peppy Teenager is Happy on another page. Idk, I just feel like her editor could’ve worked harder.

I love her to death, but so far, there is a whole lot of “telling” over “showing” and difficult to follow transitions in the writing that makes it hard to look past and be immersed in the story

YUPPP eating this up!!

“And maybe it's the cocktails, or my overactive writer's imagination, but I feel this hot coiling in my stomach, a bizarre urge to stick my fingers in her berry-red-painted mouth and rip her face apart, to neatly peel her skin off her body like an orange and zip it up over myself.”

He really was a good guy, Snow. His first act as a Peacekeeper was him taking the bottom bunk because the other kid was afraid of heights. That little detail really brought back the humanness. Gosh, Suzanne Collins really is amazing. Her writing is so easy to read

“Coriolanus stumbled onto the platform with a throbbing head and sandpaper mouth.”

Really, really good similes here:
“They stood in the rain like farm animals.”
“By day the banished sun circles the earth like a grieving mother with a lamp.”
“Reflecting back the sun deep in the darkness like a flash of knives in a cave.”

“Borrowed time and borrowed world and borrowed eyes with which to sorrow it.”

You know it’s a good old book when it uses the word trundle.

Every time it says “the road” it feels like when they say the name of a movie in the dialogue.

“Then he just sat there holding the binoculars and watching the ashen daylight congeal over the land.”

“he left the boy in the dry”

“The unseen sun cast no shadow.”

“Where you’ve nothing else construction ceremonies out of air and breathe upon them.”
