Scott Morgan is starting Frankenstein: The 1818 Text
another recommendation by Sheldon Solomon. About 1/3 way through, it is more readable (to me) than Dickens or Austen or other 19th century writers. Solomon isn't the only one out there saying it is well worth the effort to read, and it is fairly short so her I go

I finished this gem; I have also read her first novel The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. This one deals with death, and was recommended by the psychologist whose passion has been the denial of death, Sheldon Solomon. Good overall in southern gothic style. the biggest flaw was she described a Baptist preacher who was not credible regarding how poorly he handled the concerns of a dying parishoner.

Scott Morgan is finished with The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity
I started this yesterday. My therapist recommended it. In our session Monday he was unwell, fell from his chair and I had to call 911. I think I need to give Julia Cameron's book a try

Scott Morgan is starting The Overstory
Just starting this book. I read a negative review a few years ago and avoided this book. More recently I saw a positive review on facebook by someone I admire, and 2 other folks I think highly of said they loved it. Oh, and someone I like and respect gave me a copy. So it seems the universe is suggesting I read it, who am I to argue?

Scott Morgan is starting The Only World We've Got: A Paul Shepard Reader
I am loving this book. It is a collection of essays, selected by the author for this volume, shortly before he died. Shepard is an author of wide breadth, so it is no surprise some of the essays resonated more than others. So far I liked The Metaphysical Bear, about humanity and mythology, and On the Significance of Being Shaped by the Past, about humanity's life as hunter gatherers.

Scott Morgan is starting Beyond Sing the Woods
I have been meaning to read this for some time. This was on the bookshelf of my aunt's Rusty and Kelly. They were big readers and tackled translations of Norwegian authors (like this book) and Swedes too as well as American and English authors. Although out of print, there are lots of copies of this around. There is still demand on the used book market, where I got this copy.

A book of essays so some more engaging than others. The scholarship is old (70s, 80s, Shepard died in 1996) but refreshing all the same. A critique on modernity and what humanity lost giving up hunter/gatherer lifestyle

Good read. A few inconsistencies such as eating ripe blackberries in late spring should be summer.
