This book takes a great turn about midway through that makes it so much more than its title could promise, all the while continuing to fail to deliver on the title's promise because that's not what Dederer actually seems to want to write about.

To make your first sentence "This is a book about Annie Hall, not Woody Allen." is such an insanely short sighted view. It manifests the kind of disavowal you'll invoke later as your contributors look to psychoanalysis. So far this book is entirely about Allen because their desperation for it to not be makes his presence entirely unavoidable.
