call this book mcdonalds because i'm lovin it.

How am I this far and somehow not yet miserable?

So i'm annotating the FUH out of this book.

And somehow, in my heart, it's just mid.

I can't explain the level to which I currently feel NOTHING towards this novel. And not even a begrudging fondness for the novel! Nothing! It's literally to the point where I don't think there's going to even BE subjectiveness in my final review.

While many can't stand Nick, I don't mind him. I sympathize. He's just a closeted gay with a crush on his bestie. Do i want him or want to BE him? We've all been there.

But Gatsby. Oh Gatsby. Why is he just a creep for free this entire novel?? Why is he OBSESSED with daisy so much?? (hey lauren that's lowk the theme of the book...) Idc bc it's REALLY off putting. and yeah 'product of its time' whatever, IT'S WEIRD!!

honestly, it's not THAT bad right now. We've met Endgame Male™ and yes, it was a hard paragraph. but as of now, I'm trying to keep the spirit of 2010s trash dystopian fiction within me while ignoring that the novel is, in fact, 2020s trash.

Successfully made it through chapter one of Divergent x How to Train Your Dragon Lovechild That Got Smut Polio at Age Two, and I'm already threatening to DNF.

Little Miss Yarros gave us ONE GOOD CHARACTER AND FRICKIN KILLED HIM IN THE FIRST CHAPTER. MY GOD, not her actively ragebaiting me with good writing for two seconds.

RIP Dylan, you will be forever missed. Let's hope they revive you or some shit later on...

I will say, the quality of the audio mixing, SFX, and overall production quality of the dramatized audiobook is actually really good. Your girl loves a good radio drama.

Currently reading the audiobook for this because I get free audiobook hours on Spotify Premium.

Getting MEGA deja vu to Divergent. Like wym you just naturally also have a lowk dystopian makeup, boy in the new quadrant (cough FACTION cough) that is an enemy of your parents, and a protective older sibling......

I expect it to get worse (especially when she meets the love interest) but am trying to remain hopeful...

I polarity of this novel going from wow big serious fantasy stuff with prophecies and elves and battles and lost language to a 10 year old girl begging her aunt to go sledding is what i'm living for rn....

This guy worldbuilds in a way I usually end up not liking, BUT I'M DIGGIN HIS WRITING! He takes a spin on the whole 'lemme set the scene by telling you a story...' in a very intriguing way. No infodumps EVER and social/governmental norms are established through fluid dialogue.

Love the characters so far as well (but i'm just a lil garden hoe for found family in books arent i....)

Honestly the vibes are good tho. High school stress = no brain or theme in book.

It really helps that the novel is CONSCIOUS of how camp and silly it is and that helps me like it. I prefer my trash fiction to know it’s trash.

Little Miss Uses Apostrophes Instead of Quotation Marks needs to learn that even small towns have police departments.

I love the book but I was hoping it gave more fall. This a beach read horror novel 😭😭😭

Eek! This plot! I can’t tell if I love it or hate it.

This book is lowkey a perfect thriller for Halloween but also lowkey scary in the sense that it really does mirror the over-sexualization of women within true crime media, both victim and investigator…….
