Lol at this line, “Okay,” she said skeptically. “Do we want to go get some of the boys to help us?” “The boys?” “You know. The Penis Paraders. Stevie is a troll for goodness sake. He’s great at bashing stuff, and he can balance his club on the tip of his finger for ten seconds straight. Oh, and Gluteus can break things with his butt! You get a mob’s head in there, and it’s game over.”

Really hating Loita, the corporate, boot-licking fish manager. This tender scene gives me hope:

“It’s okay, Donut,” I said. “We’ll see her again. I promise.” “You shouldn’t promise things like that,” she said. “You shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep.” I patted her on the head. “We will see her again, Donut. I keep my promises.” She butted her head against mine, purring loudly.

Lol at this line from the AI, "Toraline Root Vegetable. Alchemy Material. This rare tuber only grows in dirt that has been covered by lava. They are very rare. Nobody ever goes digging them up, either. You know why? Because they taste like dogshit, that’s why. They’re pretty much useless. In fact, fuck you for wasting my time with this."

Fighting in an apocalyptic survivor game show with his cat, Princess Donut?! Wait, she can TALK?! What!? So funny and loving this light-hearted read.

I love the traveling and new characters. Seeing some character growth in Phedre. What an adventure ✨️

Poor Phedre... all of her schooling is coming into play now. The political intrigue becomes more illuminating at about 40 percent through. Finally, seeing some action.

Also, I am in love with Jacqueline Carey's articulate writing style, which I find is lacking in today's fantasy novels.

Detective in a small town. Girl with a damaged psyche. I'm fucking hooked. The writing is eloquent and heart-rending. The pacing is perfect for showcasing the immediacy of the situation. Sleep is for the week, here we go!

What a refreshing take on Vampires. Set in the modern world. The pacing is great and I'm hooked. Probably going to finish it tonight. Can't wait to read who the killer is.

"Panic is a wild thing within me now, fear and desperation making it nearly impossible for me to think or even breathe."
The amount of times she says this, or some iteration of this simile, irks me. She overuses these phrases in her books. Man, it's annoying.

I'm enjoying this 5th installment of All Souls. This book, like the others, is all things witchy and dark academia that I love. Taking my time to savor this has been difficult but worth it. I love reading about the Ravenswood, ghosts, and Diana on her path to higher magic. I love that the pacing isn't rushed and that the prose is as intelligent as ever.
