Just finished 1 Chronicles 1-9, which was very tough.

Skipped 1 & 2 Kings to go to 1 Chronicles bc it covers the same time period as I just read in 1 & 2 Samuel and I’d rather cover it again now than after I’ve moved past it in 1 & 2 Kings.

After 1 Chronicles, I’ll go back and read 1 & 2 Kings simultaneously with 2 Chronicles, since that covers the same time period as those two.

Finished 1 & 2 Samuel.

Percentage reflects progress on my goal of reading from Judges to the end of the OT

Started with Judges and just finished. Aiming to read the Old Testament because I don't know it well.

Anthony Remender is finished with An Apology of the Church of England by John Jewel
Part 6: Final claim: You should've sought these changes through a *general* council w Rome. Response, rhetorically: Rome abandoned the Apostles and Fathers without a council; why do we need one to return to them? Substantively: (1) Rome cannot and will not fairly judge itself; (2) Rome censors opposing civil and religious leaders in councils; (3) the Fathers used local councils, esp when general councils were corrupt

Part 5: Rome claims they have all the ancient authorities, while the COE's doctrines are newly invented. Jewel agrees that "there can nothing be more spitefully spoken against the religion of God than to accuse it of novelty", but says the wicked have always accused the truth of being "new-fangled and late devised". Further, he beats the drum of a *long* list of patristic examples condemning Rome's current practices.

Part 4: Defending against projection - "We usurp civil authority? The pope makes kings kiss his feet. We permit sin? Rome approved of concubines for priests." England didn't leave the Church; *Rome* split from *them* for doing removing errors. Error infecting the Church has always been prophesied; why is Rome surprised? A Romanist blasphemously called Scripture useless, impotent, and indecipherable without the Pope.

Part 3: Very short, focused mainly on defending against common slanders, namely that (1) disagreements and splits among the Reformation show it is not of God nor part of the true Church, and (2) their people are sinful.

John Jewel shows how differing schools of thought have always existed in the true Church -- and still do in the Roman Church -- and how Christians have before been sinful while remaining the Church.

Part 2: Some good quotes from Church Fathers seeming to suggest the Anglican sacramentology -- need further reading of those primary sources.

Other mentioned topics for further reading: Atonement theology in Anglicanism (seemed ransom-oriented here and centered on the cross/death of Christ singularly with little to no mention of life & ascension), Lutheran-Reformed division, Anglican view of "the keys" (Matt 16/18)

“Are you betrothed?”

“No, only loved,”

“And do you pay for love?”

“No, but I owe it everything.”

Did not expect to get emotional in this light read but man it’s gettin me.
