The inaugural Joiner spouses’ book club book. Very much out of my wheelhouse but it’s good to be challenged.

This is a challenge on multiple levels.

Determined to figure out why this is considered a classic but somehow I feel like I’m going to get in trouble for reading it. 🫣

In the gardens, heard by no one,
Trees shining in the moonlight slumber;
Through the depths of their round crowns rustle
The breaths of beautiful dreams.

Caught up in the adventure of _The Voyage of the Dawn Treader_.

“Wouldn’t it be dreadful if some day, in our own world, at home, men started going wild inside, like the animals here, and still looked like men, so that you’d never know which were which?” / this stopped my heart considering events from today

“I wonder if, like newborn children, we go through our entire lives looking for a face, longing for a particular gaze that calms and fills us, that loves and welcomes us, that recognizes and runs to greet us.” ❤️

Lots of sweet moments so far plus I’m genuinely intrigued by Theo.

Warm, inviting, charming, beautiful.

Every time we prepare food we interrupt a life cycle. We pull up a carrot or kill a crab—or maybe just stop the mold that's growing on a wedge of cheese.We make meals with those ingredients and in doing so we give life to something else. It's a basic equation, and if we pretend it doesn't exist, we're likely to miss the other important lesson, which is to give respect to both sides of the equation.So we start here.
