I read the first page and knew I was in for something special. I’m early but already starting to believe in his title as a hidden master of the previous century

The dopaminergic cycle of reading Sherlock Holmes be like:

“Ah dang, Sherlock we’re stumped.”
“Hm. Well actually the answer is right in front of us, Watson, you see…”
“Woahhh you’re awesome Sherlock.”

It’s simply the greatest thing ever.

One of the most experimental novels I’ve read in recent memory. It’s been great (and bleak) so far and captures an appreciation of language unique to itself.

Finished the marquis story and so far it’s been great. Through a series of interruptions (like this) Atay is able to create one of the best depictions of an obsessive and self-conscious narrator I’ve seen. The focus on fear, anxiety, depression, etc. make it feel kafkaesque in the best of ways.

I love translating whole passages from German to English and having to read up on Master Eckhart’s philosophy 😍
