Truitt’s prose is elegant and elegiac, and despite being rather dense, has felt like a balm to my soul in the last year or so as I ploughed through Daybook in between reading other things. Her meditations on her various roles are so well wrought. I’m actually quite sad that I’m reaching the end of the journal soon — thankfully I can always reread a book.

Kinda knew I’d take to this book, but didn’t realise that I’d like it THIS much and I’m only a little way in!

I can already tell that this book is going to be one of slow but unexpected reveals, judging by what I’ve come to realise the author is doing with the footnotes that appear on most pages. The blurb at the back says that this novel blurs the line between fact and fiction, but that’s not it I think. It’s more about the layered narrative tellings here that makes author and characters’ voices indistinguishable.
