Electrifying!

Not what I was expecting. Good for Halloween read what with its setting, characters and backdrop. Enjoying.

Short stories. Each easily completed at a single sitting. Love his writing.

It’s long and Russian, but I ain’t skeered. Found a mint-condition heavy-bond paperback at thrift store for $1. Couldn’t pass it up. Taking my time.

Lenin’s alternating bouts of active engagement and paralyzing Nihilism are particularly well-constructed.

Fading. Got tired of scrolling through full PDF version on line so am reduced to an abridged library copy. Less social discourse. More story.

Ive yet to give up, but have made a few concessions. Most significantly, I’m frequently listening to a Spotify audiobook rendition (occasionally after falling asleep).

My goal was to learn more about the French Revolution, Napoleon and whatnot. I claim some success in that regard. Mais la ligne d'arrivée est encore à des lieues.

Oopsie … there’s a lot more of this book than I thought. 🤭

Just finished Volume 2: Cossette

Remarkably detailed. Hugo doesn’t just write “Valjean and himself found themselves at a convent.”

He explains why the convent exists. On whose authority it continues to operate. On its history and principles. And then philosophizes on the value and appropriateness of convents. Whom do they serve? To what purpose?

Pages and pages. And each one just kinda makes you think.

I’m through Book 1. The names are confusing, but I’m getting my bearings. Old England translation. I’m really enjoying.

Halfway. Great read!
