Cj spoiled the book a little by saying that each section is poisoned by the biases of the people they're titled after. Since I'm still in the Munchkinlanders section, I wouldn't have known. Anyway, I don't trust their descriptions of this child. Even if she did bite that lady's finger off (which was arguably an act of self defense), everything else they're doing to her was triggered by nothing but assumptions.

I'm reading this out loud to josh. I love how you could immediately point out the propaganda and weird ideals. Honestly, everything is so familiar that it's freaky. Especially with the minister, Frax (elphie's dad), declaring that evil is coming to the land. Like damn, is Oz America rn?

When you get past the cannibalism bits, you realize that all of the characters fucking suck especially the main character. Learning how society works is fun and all, but nothing else is worth reading. Usually, I skim through the boring chapters because they don't have any impact on the story. I dunno, the moral dilemma I read this book for just doesn't hit as strongly as I expected. Im almost done so ill finish book

I wonder what that being is, the one that ate the dying goat. Also, I feel bad for Abitha, she never wanted to come to America. Even after two years, it still feels violently foreign to her. Does she even have friends? Does her husband treat her well? Are you able to send letters to your brothers? Considering that she's in a Protestant settlement, I assume that she's having a bad time. Also, will we see native ppl?

I forgot to mention that the switch from a picture of normal furniture (in the style of a catalogue) to torture devices at the beginning of the chapter is so funny. I love seeing what colors they come in.

also i feel bad for amy. i wonder how long she was tied up for. i could barely imagine how painful it is to feel your blood return to your numb body

It's so funny that Basil tried following store policy even when surrounded by the supernatural. It would've been funnier if they complied

It's interesting but sort of a downer. It has me reflecting on my previous experiences with toxic and abusive relationships. Even if someone isn't a person I would consider an abuser, that particular person I was with still exhibited some of these symptoms. It hurts to acknowledge. I wanna cry

Matt is more insufferable than trinity is. I think her name is Trinity. Also, if she did record someone, shouldn't they all check the footage to see if it was a trespasser?? Hopefully Basil becomes more human-y instead of a corporate zombie.
Also, Amy should make a decision on what she perceived. Either it didn't happen or didn't. Choose one instead of ruminating on it.

- The characters are introduced slowly and have key distinguishing features that makes it easy to remember them
- the environment is familiar.
- there's just enough mystery for me to keep reading without getting bored
- the formatting of the book gives me eye strains and headaches. since it looks like a manual, reading it feels wrong
- i can't figure out what's going to happen which is good

The first story was cute but not quite scary. Like, the scariest part is being stuck in a terrible straight relationship and giving up on your dreams. I wish there was more tension or something. If I didn't know this was a horror story, I wouldn't even consider it until the hall of mirrors bit
