Also my guess is Henry is having an affair with Cora (why it’s been a year since he slept with Lenore) and the good news/surprise she overheard was Cora saying she’s pregnant and now Henry has to figure out a way to get ready of the FMC

This is going to be a good book but it was a bad idea to pick it up at night and in the dark 😅 I feel like some thing is about to reach out and grab me

“In an arc as perfect as a fifteen year old girls breast” why? This is supposed to be a weird and unsettling book but just why? Is comments about children’s bodies in any capacity necessary? This feels icky

I wanted to read it and get into the book but due to sad life circumstances my Libby hold is almost expire and there is no way I can rush through this book. Plus it feels like the first book I finish after what happened needs to be important. A DNF for now but maybe not permanently depending on if I get back in the holds line

I’m definitely regretting delaying this read so much, even for good reason, b/c I have a short time on my hold left but in theory this seems like it will be easy to get through. As an exvangelical, I really appreciate the humor, all the little digs and emphasis on how absurd mega pastors wealth is

Oh man, this book is going to be jam packed. Definitely going to take my time read it because some of these things will be hard to process. I had no idea mutilation of women wasn’t just a one time thing in childhood, the fact that it happens over and over for the rest of some women’s lives if downright horrifying

Let me guess, Miss Meowtini got too smart with the spells to make a cat smarter and figured out how to enact her revenge?

I know this is her life story and she can’t help it, but I don’t enjoy being surprised with cancer after 6 years of my mom fighting cancer and having my own scare

Very uh....detailed. while yes, a normal part of life that is the reason EVERY creature exists I was kind of jump scared by it in the book. Don't want to DNF a T. Kingfisher book but I really don't feel in the mood for this style of humorous writing with lots of asides in parentheses

It’s getting so repetitive. The wisdom chapter could have been cut in half and would have been still too long. Because every section was “inner wisdom is shunned and that’s bad”…okay I am being facetious but it felt like Déjà vu of a different section in the book already so it was just too repetitive. The repetition with nothing new to say beyond the first 80 pages of the book is really getting to me🫠

Please, please, please go in the direction of the myth of dragons being able to shift into humans because that would be so cool and fit this world so well. Loving the book so far!

Was this book review bombed or something? Unless the ending is awful and fails to deliver I can almost guarantee this is a 5 star read for me

It’s sad her and her brother were never able to reconcile but he deserved being decked for a comment like that. My brother makes comments like that and I knew if I could land a shot, I would take a swing at him to see if he still thinks women are weak afterwards

I had to switch to the audiobook because this book is very different than I expected. I was hoping for more focus on how everything works together and not a “here’s how I figured out everything works together” it’s just hard to stay interested in what feels like a biography

80% !!! I think I will actually finish this before it has to be returned to Libby in the morning. Whew, I didn’t want to have to buy a copy (not that it’s bad, but like most people I am resisting spending any money right now) or wait at the back of the 20 people in line behind me

I’m curious as to where Richard Bourke is in all this. She has not mentioned him in any of the matriarch chapters except for the first or second one when she said it had been 3 years since she last saw him. He was not listed in the list of people she has loved and lost

I don’t know why I am only just seeing why Finola wanted O’Flaherty to kill Walter at Moycullen 🤦 as oldest he was heir and him dying made way for her son to be chief. Because Grace described the letter as from her sister in law I had the idea of a young woman Grace’s age in my head, not knowing at the time about the probably 16 year age gap between Finola and O’Flaherty

Interesting…After her father died Grace’s mother says she wished she tried harder to change his mind about forcing her to marry Donal O’Flaherty, but in this snippet Eóin is very against a union between O’Flaherty and O’Malley. I wonder what changed and why he forced the marriage? It sounds here like even a strong political alliance isn’t enough to change his mind

I like seeing the parallels and growth between the 3 different life phases, we are following. From being unable to cut a man’s throat to cutting three and quick succession

Really enjoying this book and how clever Grace is. Not everything works out but at least she has the foresight to have back up plans
