Journal entry from Bavinck on December 13th, 1875, “It was my birthday, I received a box of 250 cigars from Albert Gunnink.”

Bunyan pre-conversion upon overhearing a group of poor women talking about being born again, being convinced of their sinful state, the love of Christ being shown to them, God’s precious promises:

“Methought they spake as if joy did make them speak; they spake with such pleasantness of Scripture language, and with such appearance of grace in all they said, that they were to me, as if they found a new world”

Robertson on the Noahic covenant:

“Having once destroyed the world, thereby depicting the immutability of his righteous decrees, the Lord God now couples the clouds with his rainbow to manifest his free and unmerited purpose of grace. It is no accident that the throne of the righteous Judge of heaven and earth is depicted as having ‘a rainbow round about the throne, like an emerald to look upon’ (Rev. 4:3)

“The current believer in Christ does not follow the Sabbath pattern of the people of the old covenant. He does not first labor six days, looking hopefully towards rest. Second half of this book is all about textual criticism — I’m really thankful other people who are way smarter than me do the research and can synthesize information for me 😂 not as engaging as the first half of the book, but nonetheless important

So good! Jan Bavinck’s (Herman’s father) exhortation to the Theological School in Kampen, calling them to have a sanctifying presence in the Dutch culture:
