I’m such a pansy. I read books that absolutely require trigger warnings, but the keeping of secrets and holding them as a deal breaker gives me the kind of anxiety I have before big tests. But it’s different because I don’t know where the story is going. Even if the author has said it’s an HEA. So I see the trajectory of the storyline, but I can’t jump out. I don’t want to read more, but I do. Here I go.

Wait wait. I’ve been listening for like, 6 hours and I’m only at 56%!? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

Omggggg I’m digging the female narrator’s style SO HARD. Stella Hunter? 👏🏽

I don't... understand... why they're panicking? Like, I get it, but the reality is that they knew each other in high school and are from the same small town. So the odds that it's fake is exponentially lower. It started that way, but this doesn't seem like something that would be that difficult to spin.

Why… why is there still SO MUCH left? 😬

So… 🤔 this “romance” is very similar to how it reads from many male authors.

Overall, I’m enjoying this so far. The narrator is… okay. She has a narrator voice and while it’s not bad, at all, it feels… like it’s lacking in exuberance.

But maybe I just have over the top relationships with my friends?

Good for her! I’m liking her much more with a backbone.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a Nora Roberts book before, so this will be an adventure. At first blush, I’m not sure about this FMC. The way she’s being read (via audiobook) it almost makes it sound as if she’s feeling sorry for herself. Hmm. 🤔

Netflix’s version of this is much more succinct.

I’m passively enjoying this book, but I’m honestly ready for it to be over.

I am LOVING how female forward this book is. Yes, most romcoms ARE female forward, but it’s usually very subtle. In this book, it’s blatant and lovely.

I’m still reading, but I have to say that I don’t enjoy books where alcohol is a sizable part of the book. Yes yes, I see the title of the book. And the name of the series. I should have known.

But honestly, there’s a huge difference, to me, between a few drinks and Being Drunk. I don’t enjoy books where the MC is Drunk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How are we not even halfway through this book? (This is some delicious torture.)

I’m about to DNF this book. Let me first say, this book is absolutely not in any genre I normally read. So keep that in mind.

This is probably the slowest paced book I’ve ever read, and I’ve read Lord of the Rings. Also, it’s very… BS masculine. There is very little introspection and seems mostly to be a statement of facts and goings on.

I last read this, probably, around 1998ish. It’s interesting to read it now with an adult’s concept of things.

So far, the FMC isn’t super likable. It’s a grumpy/sunshine trope and I think she’s supposed to be grumpy. Which… is odd but also, she’s imperious and rude.

Also, this narrator is kind of performative, rather than intimate or relatable.

I’m… not digging the narrator so far. 😬

Okay. It’s definitely grown on me.

I’m interested in the story but find myself anxious with the busy-body mom who is just trying to help and means well but is A LOT.

I think this is why I normally read fantasy. But, pushing on…

Favourite book in the series!!!

Upon every read of this book? It never ceases to amaze me how RELEVANT this book STILL is. Obviously not the dinosaur aspect but rather the ethical implications in the development of technologies. 🤯

I do want to enjoy this book. But so far I’ve kind of had to push through it.

Also, it switches from first person to third person depending on whose “perspective” it’s from. It’s jarring.

This is such a heartbreaking and yet fascinating look into Harry’s formative years following the passing of his mother.

Mental health care is important, people. (No judgement on him. He was a kid. But it’s ridiculous that with all the people around him no one noticed he would have benefitted from grief Counselling)
