I started this but the author's intro comments revealed a certain defensiveness about his own masculinity and the news last year that he had been Me Too'd from his Christian magazine left me less confident that I would read an honest exegesis of when Jesus acted like a jerk and more suspicious that this would be another author seeking to defend the harm they have done by somehow identifying themselves with the cross.

Great author. Political intrigue. Early 1900s sexual mores. Most brilliant command of the language is demonstrated early but still a book with finishing. Had made me seek out his poetry.
