Ch. 1
There are three basic emotions: LOVE ANGER FEAR. Love is the emotion that moves us towards someone or something. The movement of anger is not only toward, but also against someone or something anger is a separation emotion. We move toward the object of anger, but with intensity that either strikes out against that object or pushes it away. Anger & fear are fight or flight emotions. Fear me you flee from threat

Ch.22
Nyla has officially moved into her new apartment. She’s spent the past days decorating her spot. Now she feels about little sad about leaving mama Jo’s house on bad terms. Nyla misses her family and wants to check on her mother. When she arrives at mama house, she discovers Barbara doing an illegal surgical procedure on Lovell. Removing his kidney with another medical apprentice. She must be stopped

Ch.21
Barbra Jeans true intentions are to keep Lovell at her house to sell his blood and kidney to the black market. Now that she knows he does have romantic feelings towards her, it’s easy to use him for a cash grab. Lovell thinks Barbra is letting him stay because she’s likes him bt she is an opportunist like him. I pity her story as a single mom caring for a sick child, but she’s taking it too far.

Ch.19
Barbara caught Nylah and Lovell hooking up in the bathroom when she came home from her shopping spree. Nylah was extremely embarrassed because she didn’t attend on doing it with Lovell, it was in the heat of the moment. However, she hates to admit that she enjoyed it. She feels guilty knowing that he has feelings for her despite all Barbara has done for him. Barbara believes Nylah did it out of spite.

Ch.16

Barbara Jean woke up noticing that her $3000 was missing. She went to Lovell‘s room to confront him about her money. Lovell insist that he did not steal anything from her. Later that morning, mama Joe confess that she stole Barbara Jean’s money and took Lovell‘s car out for a joyride. She went to the projects, most likely to get drugs while she was there some young men robbed her. Money & car gone!

Ch. 14 & 15
Nylah tries to explain to her sister Barbara the consequences she could face if their job finds out part in Lovelle escape. Nylah confess that Lovellkissed her. Barbara was in disbelief due to her feelings for Lovelle.
Nylah confront Lovell for not keeping an eye on mama Joe. They searched all night, but still no luck finding her. In the mist of it all they got intimate in the car. Both left back home

Update to Ch. 12
Mama Jo decided to allow Lovell to stay at her house and exchange for physical labor. Lovell does not have a job, but she figured the least thing he can do is repair things around the house. In result, Nylah moves to a new apartment because she does want to live with Lovell. She confronted him at her mother’s house when everyone was gone. In the heat of their argument he made his move on her.

Ch. 8 & 9
Lovell was drugged in the hospital being examined because the one of the staff realized he had unique blood. Barbara Jean tested his blood, telling everyone about her rare discovery. Little did she know that the hospital would try to keep him and do God knows what. They would keep him as an experiment. Barbara decided to save him bringing him to her house. Mama Jo did not like a stranger staying with them

Update: Ch. 5
Barbara Jean is at home with her daughter Brittney and Mama Jo. Her mother is tired of staying inside wants to leave the house. Barbara insists that Nylah would take her out after her shift. Mama Jo acts up because she hates how protective her daughters are. They keep her in a locked room because of her crack use. Mama Jo will run away to get a fix. Barbara steals blood from work to grow💐

Update: Chapt. 4

Yolanda suggest that Lovell go to park one Memorial Hospital due to his open wounds, from fighting Maurice. Lovell does not like the doctor so he tries to avoid it. He eventually listens to Yolanda, but pleaded for her to accompany him. She agreed to go, but not for long due to her man Jesse returning home soon. At the front desk Lovell meets Nylah to assist him as he has no money to pay for visit

Chapt. 3 update:

Lovelle expresses his love for women despite the wrong that has been done to him. For ex. his mother gave him up as a child, bt he doesn’t hold that against her. Lovelle is still a Pookie because he relies on women for security. He went to his ex house name Yolanda so he wouldn’t have to sleep in his car. Yolanda did not fall for his game bt took him to the hospital for his injuries.

Chapt. 8

-Anna Thunders early life before being a witch.

- warns her niece Dina to ignore Red Dress spirit because her magic is evil.

-Dina’s mother Joyce is jealous of Anna because of her Marriage with Emery even though her husband Clifford is a good man.

- Suddenly Anna’s husband Emery and son Chaske both die unexpectedly.

- Anna is left alone. Dina no longer visits her after Chaske death.

Chapt. 7

- Lydia has a twin sister named Evelyn who is her polar opposite. Lydia is soft spoken while Evelyn is the fire cracker.
-Red dress try to warn Lydia and Calvin about Anna, but I guess she was too advanced in dark magic
-if I were Lydia, I would have forgave Calvin from having that affair with Evelyn. I don’t think he had control did. It’s sad how he dies from an accident after their fight.

Chapter 2

Bridget Hodgson is midwife, widow of two marriages and a mother of two deceased children.
She works in York with her assistant Hannah and servant Martha
She recently delivered Mercy Harris of a bastard child. Mercy didn’t want to tell Ms. Hodgson her baby father‘s name “ Peter Clark”because he didn’t marry her. However, she was forced to due to the consequences.

Chapter 4 : Moonwalk

- Margaret Many Wounds was dying of diabetes
- She is the mother of Lydia and Evelyn.
-Towards the end of her life, Margaret has been taunted with the secrets that she’s kept from her children.
- Their father was a white man name Dr. Sakuma. He was a surgeon she worked with in ww2.
-Margaret named Evelyn after his deceased wife. Evelyn overheard her making these confessions at night.

Chapt. 3 :The medicine hole

*I learned about Herods character outside of Frank Pipes grandpa

* He is a respected Yuwipi man in his community but struggles in his personal life.

*Herods marriage is going downhill as dislikes who his wife has become. He feels that her friend Josephine has influenced her negatively through exposing her to sexual liberation books.

*He does not understand her sudden change

I appreciated how Jeanette was open to listening to her students' Native American folklore. It's refreshing that she encourages them to share their culture rather than forcing them to conform to the Western world. Jeanette respects their beliefs and is eager to learn from the various stories they've shared with her in class.

I hope Charlene does not get influenced by her Grandma Mercury. She’s teaching her the wrong way of life.

Also I find it suspicious how Pumpkin got in an accident randomly out of nowhere. The timing was crazy and I wonder if it was Mercury’s doing.

Before this read I had never considered the contribution trees make to our world. Not only do they give us oxygen, of course, but they also provide shelter for various species of animals and insects. Red doesn’t mind having company but desires respect. Humans don’t like our homes being vandalized, yet we do it to trees. I appreciate how the author uses subliminal messages to teach children.

More good news!!!
Jade her expressed feelings for Luke. Luckily, he shares the same desires to have a romantic relationship. Well one thing led to another and they finally hooked up for goodness sake.
Moving on, police Walter found some evidence in Johnny clothes at the hospital. It was a piece of paper with the name and number of Frank Lawson. Frank hired him as a hit man so word won’t get out. Justice will come!

Total sadness…
My hopes were crush as Johnny successfully killed Raphael. I don’t know why I thought that maybe he would have a change of heart. Coming from a man who murdered his parents what else could I expect he’s pure evil. The bright side is that his attempt to kill Jade and Luke were unsuccessful.
Thankfully Luke managed to find Johnny and shoot him. He’s not dead, but in bad condition.

Jade has returned home for goodness sake, this means Raphael can finally worry about himself for once. This man has two serious diseases and never got treated for either. Mr. Cochrane gave him access to one of his medical providers. As for now he is hospitalized. Jade’s father is a real one.
I hope Johnny has a change of heart not to kill Jade and Raphael. They been through a lot. I hope frank gets caught.

Words cannot explain how happy I am that investigator Kelly found Jade. She needs a lot of help financially, spiritually and psychologically. Jade is extremely codependent with Raphael, putting a ton of pressure on him.

I understand their history but it’s a bit too much.. Also it troubles me that her father would report the story on the news. I don’t think she’s needs that type of attention as of yet.
