Im not sure I like this sort of thing from the perspective of a child (11yo, I think) It's certainly fun, but she doesnt exactly feel like a child a lot of the time, and then you're quite suddenly reminded of how she is, in fact, a child... And it's fine. I'll probably read more. A friend recommended it to me, but I hope our kid sleuth grows up as the series goes. She's quite similar to Maomao from Apothecary Diaries

i'm not enjoying it

I'm literally so scared of the final 33% of this book. I already know of what's to come, but I do not want it to happen. They're so happy... and cute... and I don't want that to change (／。＼)

I'm really liking it so far. I really enjoy the bits about Vivian. She seems, genuinely, so cool. I feel like the author did her best to make Vivian's husband seem nice but he still kinda sucked!! Ngl. It's very fun. I think I love a cursed house plot setting.

I have,,, so many highlights so far. I couldn't possibly get them all in the one update, so here's the one about my favorite character:

"From day one, Guo Changcheng had both feared and respected his boss. Even if Zhao Yunlan unleashed a toxic fart, he would treat it as a divine utterance and think the boss had made an excellent point." (ch5, pg64)

"'Fuck your mother's second uncle!' Zhao Yunlan snarled.

After a moment of silence, Lin Jing pleaded sincerely, 'Boss...my mother's second uncle has long since passed, so please forsake these empty forms of wrath and lust.'" (ch9, p134)

I've definitely read everything i've read so far before... but like, idk why or when i stopped so im just out here floundering or whatever (i think i just wasn't locked in at the time so the reading was harder[?] or something)

This main character is a mess dude. Idk why I really enjoy that in an MC but she is very much in over head lmao

One of the realest subplots ever is having a "progressive" parent suddenly turning against more liberal ideas when its their kid that's queer. Idk if she was progressive before, but I'm guessing based on the behaviors of the character's friend circle that this probably wasn't an opinion she'd had at least obviously before. Classic case of "not my kids"

reading is genuinely so hard for me rn, but i think i've come round to having a "good" time with this

I am maybe... less entertained by this than I wanted to be, but here we are... we can do it, we can continue to consume book, surely...

I have a lot of feelings about the damaged love interest trope, but also, sometimes we just sitting down to read a thing so ehh we give one chance with this ig

Really really enjoying it so far. I love that the two main characters have a complicated, shared backstory & I can't wait to see how it continues to develop into a romantic one.
