one thing about r.f. kuang is you’re going to be getting a full academic lecture. i find robin’s struggle very interesting- both loving academia and craving approval but also resenting it for its racism and role in british colonialist empire. i’m interested to see how this will play out and also to see if robin and ramy will kiss on the mouth…

there is so much story in this story that its overwhelming, i have crammed 368 pages in like one day, and i'm barely keeping up with the plot. but i can't stop gorging myself on this book. the writing is exquisite, the magic system is incredibly real, and fang runin is easily one of the best protagonists i've ever read about, joining my personal pantheon with the likes of katniss everdeen or jude duarte.

absolutely genius how muir manipulates the reader into wanting the plot to stand still. the ending of htn leaves you on an intense cliffhanger, and the beginning of ntn does not concern itself with picking up where it left off. this might have been frustrating if nona had not been such a delight. you want the plot to keep moving, but you know you will lose your new friend if it does.
