The pacing is just 🫣 very grounded with the main character and her outlook on life yet still suspenseful enough with the twists and turns in her research and the events she experiences.

I thought this was going to be a totally different reading experience, so I’m pleasantly surprised by this book. The main characters are very (bitter)sweet and enjoyable to follow along. The body horror and cosmic horror aspects are really cool as expected. I’m kind of sad to finish it 🥲

We have a…. Circus now? What was Junji Ito on when he was making this? 😭

God, I really hope nothing inappropriate happens with the neighbor’s teenage son 😭 I hate when author’s use that trope, the whole unhappy wife and a teenager/age gap scenario. If it does, 100% dnfing.

I’m also conflicted with the narrator and the 1st person writing style— a bit too drawling and nonsensical at points. But 🫡

Very good atmosphere building, a bit on the nose with how obvious everything is (so far). But the writing and characters make it a charming, cozy read.

The characters are kind of insufferable actually 🙃 but I’ll probably finish it since it is an interesting setting with intriguing dynamics/mystery.

Very interesting for horror writing and generating ideas for world-building, etc.
