Question for anyone who has read Bulgakov’s The Master & Margarita— did you read Faust prior?

I’ve read a summary prior to starting Part 2, however I haven’t connected all the dots yet. I assume this is Bulgakov’s intent as the 3 storylines do eventually merge (so I’ve heard)…
