I enjoyed the first ~1/2 of the book. Once the Bachelor-like competition started, and Eden completely lost focus on her mission, started sympathizing/siding with the Cruisers/Capitalists, and thinking her comrades were too revolutionary/extreme was when this book dropped a few stars for me.

Good potential but lost its way w/ the shift to sympathizer/collaborator instead of exploring the Dystopian world created

Meh I’m struggling to stay with this one.

How does this book have so many 4 & 5 star reviews? I’m listening while cleaning and will prob DNF.

actually a self-deprecating, checked out, angry, boring guy who despite all of his privilege still sucks while token characters teach him about life. Most of the “humor” seems to illustrate how oppressed & misunderstood the poor man is.

Ughhh the characterization of women is misogynistic and one dimensional. Janey is presented through Hodges’ eyes, which is almost focused on her looks, physical attractiveness, and desirability to Hodges. At this point, I’m not sure King is able to write women as anything but an accessory to men or an overthought.

Also the fat-shaming is so unnecessary
