What the fuck is going on?

This book is such carnage. I don't know if I hate it or love it. It's constant deplorable mayhem and everything is awful and insane.

This medieval Nordic village also feels like Farage's vision for Britain ngl.

Very much enjoying this! The person who recommended it to me said she thought it was better than Johanna Van Veen's other book, My Darling Dreadful Thing, and I'm yet undecided but it's definitely up there :D
Can't wait to read more when I next get a break at work lol

There's not enough. And not in a good way. It should be padded out with just more writing because it's too short to really get to know the characters and the context/setting.

Loving it though, and it was GAY, in a time before all that was acceptable - lurv

I'm enjoying it - the story is NOT well-written; it feels as though I've been dropped in for the second act after less than a page of exposition. Nonetheless, it's entertaining, AND it's GAY and about VAMPIRES !!

Kind of unsettling that Gordon is such a loser and yet I occasionally find him relatable.

Started reading this book because I thought the title sounded cool. It's pretty good so far

It's okay. The poetry isn't necessarily for me. A couple of lovely pieces but overall find the way it's been set out by the author kind of cringe and self-indulgent.
I had expected it to be a careful selection of poetry which spawned the themes named to distinguish sections of the book, but it seems that the author decided on section headers and wrote poems to fit.

P.186 "With Agnes, my body no longer was an inconvenience to be brutalised into submission. It was as if she had awoken me from a deep slumber with that lover's kiss at the seance. Is it any wonder that I loved her, that I wanted her to be happy? And to make her happy, I would have to dig up Thomas and tuck his body into the bog..."

This story is so wonderfully horrific and unhinged. I'm having a great time.

This is great, I love a gothic ghost story. Very heavily inspired by Henry James' Turn of The Screw, but it leans into and acknowledges it which is great. Havin a good time :D

Interesting. Obviously aimed at GCSE/A level students, there are nonetheless takeaways applicable to my own life. I've never really cared too much about grades, but it feels applicable to other aspects of life too. For work I still revise/train first aid repeatedly; I still study at uni; and I have my own creative endeavours. For each of these, I find there are snippets of information I am taking note of.

I had just started enjoying it, and then it got so smutty I want to kill myself :( There's better ways of developing a dynamic between the characters, I aint wanna read these pages on pages of vampyre erotica

It's actually alright. The writing is very millenial, and feels as though geared towards an American audience - in that it over-explains to such extent that everything is blindingly obvious and no subtle foreshadowing survives the onslaught of exposition. Nonetheless, I am enjoying the story so far :D

Eh. It's okay. The story is engaging and the premise is kinda cool. The writing style is lacking a certain elegance I'd expect from a Vampire novel, but I suppose this is fantasy moreso than gothic horror. Reading it on reception at work also brings down the vibe

As I been predicting since the beginning, she cheats on her husband. Tbf he is kinda gross and nothing-ey but like, c'mon, how you gonna romanticise cheating? Not a fan

Just watched the 90s Film of Persuasion and ugh I just love Jane Austen's characters, need to find out if there's more (well-written) spinoff material like this book.

I always think when reading these, that I'd love to live a life where I have like zero responsibilities. Where, because I'd belong to 18th century aristocracy, I could just do shit, like go visit my family in the country for weeks and sit around in the outdoors and take morning walks and sit by cafes or have a picnic whenever I chose... and then I remember, I'm an arts student - this is pretty much my life.
