Fuck me this could be a slog. Some unbelievable writing but it’s pebbledashed across the page in bleak colliery housing style.

Is it 200 pages too long? Sure. But it is wild how much of the story has parallels with casual contracts and construction piece work today. The book didn’t feel too stuffy and its socialist core is a my idea of a warm hug.
