This feels YA fiction in some ways, but I can see there will be some 🌶️. Giving Harry Potter and all the fantasy tropes and wonder but in a good way.

Can understand why people love it. Feels like a fantasy classic.

She’s not a bad writer either. It’s not beatify but smooth and effective.

A beautifully written cruel world. I find it exhausting.

I think can see where this is going. A story about guilt, Indian families beholden to sexism and caste system .

This isn’t going to be easy reading. I’m having to repeat sentences. Wot does this mean? I don’t understand what is being conveyed hmmmmmm

I just don’t understand does everyone forget the previous plot points? You should have known they could do that?

I genuinely cannot believe how stupid this main character is sometimes

Why are all the other witches apart from the main character so stupid?

There’s so much talking about plot points we’re already know I’m going to go insane.

We had a very good Chapter or two. But now we’re back to the king reading books. Everyone is doing a lot of thinking.

Also I really cba for this whole “let’s turn you into a king” montage.

It’s giving Mulan’s “honour to us all”.

Oh my. I feel like I’m still at the intro. 263 pages!

Quite funny at parts. The themes are consistent and multilayered but there’s only one storyline. Yknow like only A plot, no B. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just one very strong concept. Which I think is fine.

Anyone got any recommendations for something French related? Or based in France? I’m on holiday, Île de Re, in two weeks and I love to read in the setting I’m in.

Had to buy a copy of this book after losing it on a drunken night out Saturday. It was a library book too 🙃😫

I credit Brandon Sanderson mistborn getting me back in to reading. I ate it up. This feels like it’s going to be a slow burn and heavily reliant on knowing how good the last book was. Hopefully this one isn’t filler to hook you into the series.

This is getting a little bit heavy handed.
Kuang had made June absolutely deplorable. I struggle to read books when I loathe the main character.

Hopefully we get a shift in events or themes soon. It’s abit one note for 100 pages in.

June Hayward is a thief , plagiarist, definitely racist. But somehow worst of all, a butcher.

Some of the language is a little on the head, does a lot of telling rather than showing, spoon feeding the reader when it’s pretty obvious what’s happening or how the characters are feeling. and it is dragging little in the middle.

I feel like I’ve likely guessed the twist.

BUT overall I’m enjoying this. It’s 101 from the genre. Sometimes exactly what you want from a fantasy book.

Not gonna lie but when I saw the from cover and blurb I thought this was going to be in the bad fantasy camp. The title god killer seemed too on the head.

But so far so good. I like the world building and concepts. Im really imagining scenes as if illustrated by the great Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli)

This guy is nuts. Disturbing hope she gets away but doing think she will. She’s up to something though is he just mad. She mad too from the abuse?

Really good so far. Considering this guy is a pedo he makes a very to easy to read narrator. The pacing is very good too. Totally thought this book

A lot of description and no punctuation. Has been a. Real slog. But also brutal and beautiful.

Man god protagonist written ok , women don main written horribly.

Theyre annoyingly at reach others throats and now she’s suddenly his therapist.

3/5 so far. Pushing 2/5 moments I have thought I might not finish. But sometimes 4/5. Okay plot. Badly written
