People keep giving me book recs. I got this one through a trade so i guess i'll have to kill it.
The author's writing style is unique among other American fiction. Every word fumes with a tinge of blood.

Ayy lmao i can't stop. I get some shit for reading out loud, but Frank Herbert's reassuring words support my zealous predilection... "[they] take on a different character when read aloud." To me, it's as if one becomes a part in the story; the reader fully embodies narration. This behaviour may or may not have me speaking in meter, as if it is written.

Couldn't sleep so I finished the book tonight. I'm losing hope for this story. I think we'll come back after a break, but idk... Maybe I believed in it too much. I could actually start a religion with the memory-content stuff.
It is exactly what I like but the author writes so weird; I feel like I'm being manipulated — staggered — by cadence. It's also getting lazy, lol. It could have used a couple more chapters.

"In matters of the spirit, these sauvages believe that we all have within us a life force that is similar, if you will, to our own Catholic belief in the soul. They call this life force the orenda."

He has finally joined as one with the desert fish and is now become superhuman. I miss the good old days before I knew of this monster. I can't believe they have my guy leaping violently like Superman. I have so many questions. I'll be at the dentist tmrw and I wonder if they'll let me read while they work on me, bc this plot is thickening quickly. I'm like $100,000 richer now, and I know there is still more to come!

Giving up on account of not ever going to find a Chuck-Will's-Widow.
I got a bird diary now anyways...

I saw a pair of Cerulean Warblers down by the college. The male was a fierce, gleaming blue with a white tummy; and the female looked kind of beige with that same shiny blue on her forehead.
I also found this cool stick by a #new beaver dam down the river. It's all chewed up, and cut perfectly to my height. I'm going to turn it into a proper shepherd's staff; just waiting for the crook to soften as I'm writing this.

I have adopted the local starlings into my bird coven (a flock?). We are slowly growing in number, and shortly (I hope) in size! We sing stories of crushed peanuts and everlasting love up to the dewy morning breeze. I am their fellow, and my compatriots bring me joyful tidings. Jk I have no idea what they're jabbering about and neither (probably) do they.

Still no worm-Leto... But I'm glad that *one twist* was revealed about The Preacher. The Atreides family, or rather, the Harkonnen side of it, is surely bound to crumble soon.

This morning I saw what are arguably the most common birds in Ontario.
I saw a red Robin (Turdus migratorius) atop a young pine tree with a female fluttering about to check him out.
Yesterday I saw a male Red-Winged Blackbird; and today I found a female, foraging in the bush. She has brown plumage with fiery streaks of beige; no red.
And, for the record, a House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) on the fence at home.

Put this up cus I've seen some pretty birds and I want to know what they're called. I definitely won't learn them all. Today I saw a Red-Winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus, epic name btw) chasing a female before he stood repose on a cattail nearby me. There he sang a song that sounded like a whistling splash of water (i guess you could say they all sound like that), before he lifted off to continue his chased.

Spent the day on the mountain reading aloud to the birds (could have picked some better poetry ngl), and picking up garbage. I saw a woodpecker on my fav pine, a hawk (who's usually always there), and a couple of curious sparrows.
I must have picked up about 3lbs of nails, including various miniscule iron workings (it was a big pile of stuff); & also random trash. #virtue #sunburn
Side note: my copy has only 275 pgs.

i thought I'd have much more time to read this summer, but I've been pretty busy... inbetween summer classes, moving, making friends, seeing my first concert, and attending to rather pernicious appointments. it's been hectic, and fun.
anyways i think my dad spoiled this book for me, talking about how Leto becomes a worm. he showed me some fan art and i couldn't help but laugh. I'll remain patient, but eager.
