this prose is addictively good

finally getting into this ~ it feels like reading a National Geographic documentary narration

Actually such well written historical romance, this is better than the second book in the series (reading these in random order is a bit odd but there's barely any overlap so that helps!).

Enjoying this so far BUT WHY DOES RF KUANG KEEP COMMENTING ON THE RACISM AND THE MISOGYNY IN THE FOOTNOTES

like babe, we get it
you don’t have to spell everything out for us
everyone was racist and and horrible and only you seem enlightened about it

this keeps breaking me out of the spell of reading too 😭😭😭

I'm trying so hard not to make my next read a reread as well ! This cozy weather is making me itch for it.

I keep eyeing The Name of the Wind on my shelf, might just reread it alongisde some other books at this point.

quick update: no I do not recommend everyone read this book...more thoughts later...

The movie made me forget how gradual this book is with the major plot points. So much more nuance and subtlety !

can't put this down

there's so much in here I've spent time battling and thinking about, I wish more Muslims would pick this up

this should be required reading for anyone participating in islamic discourse today (even the social media kind)

I don't understand how you read this without wanting to tear your hair out so I'm putting this on pause.

Just when I think it's getting better, someone starts going on about the Venetian Doge and the horse and the miniaturist who went blind and I get so bored I don't feel like reading ever again.

planning to make this a one day read for book club!

This has been a blast so far BUT I AM STRUGGLING with the details; there is so much to remember from the other books like oof I really wish I had read vilest things right before this.

very slow progress on this as I travel ; it’s definitely picked up now

Me running to Mimi Matthews everytime I feel a slump coming SHE SAVES ME EVERY TIME

what am I going to do when I run out of her books 😭😭😭

Was genuinely enjoying this but the magical realism is so hard to follow in some of these stories and I am already feeling a slump so I am putting this on hold; sadly.

both the books I'm reading are written ecperimentally and trying to lock in while travelling is SO HARD, so sad but I might have to put both on hold

I'm so desperate to find time to read this I let myself get motion sick on a bus reading EVEN THOUGH I AM WELL AWARE I GET MOTION SICK WHEN I READ IN A MOVING VEHICLE.

such interesting prose, I don't think I realized how much I had changed my mind on magical realism until I started reading this

Check out my recent video where I attempt to read 7 books in 7 days:

YO maybe audiobooks are for me cause this so fun to listen to!

Historical romances are just superior, the writing in this is MWAH already.

such an interesting angle to writing non fiction

so different from the first Morisaki book

This challenge is weirdly messing up my reading AGH!
